Tuesday Tech Tidbits
A quick look at great technology to make your job easier
Creating a PLN
Look for fresh ideas for your classroom? Want to know what is working for other teachers in your subject area? Don't limit yourself to what your neighbor next door is doing. Open yourself up to the whole world!
Use TWITTER!
Now before you shake your head, Twitter is not just about following your favorite movie/TV stars. There is a whole educational world full of great ideas!
Sign up for Twitter. Find people you are interested in following.
Twitter4Teachers is a great place to find people in your subject area that are on Twitter.
TweetDeck
TweetDeck allows you to follow certain hashtags (#). For example, I follow #tlchat (teacher librarian chat) and I keep track of what is being discussed on twitter for librarians without having to wade through the tons of tweets that come through daily.
Avoiding chaos
Using TweetDeck is a great way to keep all the great information you have sorted and available for when you need it. You can Favorite or Retweet anything that you would like to look at another time.
Hashtags
When you see a # in front of a phrase, for example #oscars14, this is how people tag their tweets. If someone else is looking for information on twitter about a certain topic, they can search for #subject and everything with that hashtag will show up.
Click here for a link that tells you some great hashtags to follow. Before you know it, you will have a whole Professional Learning Network at your fingertips.
SO MUCH MORE!
There is so much to Twitter and how you can use it make your classroom the best ever. If you would like more information, please let me know. If there is enough interest, I would even be willing to host a workshop on this. It's amazing all the great resources that are free and ready at our fingertips. We just have to know how to find them.
