NAESP: Report to Parents - Managing Virtual Learning Stress

We are so proud of our students for their abilities to navigate the virtual setting of our classrooms. Teachers are always available for help and assistance - whenever there is a challenge experienced on a particular day or the technology just doesn't seem to be cooperating. Do not hesitate to reach out. Keep encouraging your children to do their best and contact our amazingly helpful Student Support Counselors if children need encouragement or reinforcement. For even more ideas to help your child better attend the main subjects during their days, read NAESP's: Report to Parents - Managing Virtual Learning Stress

"As schools across the country are conducting schoolwork remotely, many children are forced to deal with what some call “Zoom Fatigue.” Whatever the virtual platform used, maintaining focus, eliminating distractions, and coping with self-consciousness presents new challenges and takes its toll on students. Fortunately, there are ways you can help your child proactively be more engaged and manage this fatigue"

Important Information

Butler Daily Schedule Reminder - Through 10/23

During this next phase of virtual learning, Butler will maintain a consistent lunch/recess period from 11:30AM-12:10PM for all students in Grades one through six. This will best support the need to maintain home schedules during the final stages of our building's construction project.

In order to accomplish this:

  • Butler Elementary will continue with the current instructional schedule through Friday, October 23rd. It is the same schedule that has been in-place since September 14th.
  • Specials will remain asynchronous (pre-recorded), but the expectation is that children attend all special lessons as if it were a live lesson. When projects are completed, students will need to follow the parameters for submitting assignments.

Butler must follow the District's Specialist Rotation Schedule - starting yesterday, 9/30. We will began with our Day-A Rotation for classroom special schedules,. Your child's teacher will send reminders for the correct special our 9-day-in-a-row special rotations - and how to access the pre-recorded lessons.

Any questions about assignments for specials, please contact your Specialist Teacher:

Butler - Health & Safety Introduction for Opening of In-Person School - 10/26

Recently, the District shared a video to help anticipate the opening of school to in-person learning. Please click here to see an introduction by Mr. Funseth and general details about student returns for school openings.

Guidelines for Good Hygiene Practices

As part of our District Health and Safety Plan, schools will share guidelines for healthy hygiene practices such as handwashing and hand sanitizing, the use of face coverings, social distancing, and staying home when sick. These short videos were created by the National Association of School Nurses. When students return, these will be reviewed in classrooms, but you are free to watch with your child to help at home, too!

School Happenings

Deep Thinking & Classroom Fun!

Students are challenged each day with carefully planned instruction provided by their teachers. LIVE learning provides children with real-time instruction where teachers are able to check-in as the lesson progresses. At times, students will be asked to work independently and to check-in after a few minutes to review what was completed. Either way, our teachers are learning so much about their students - and they are making meaningful connections along the way!

Butler Back to School Nights - Opportunity to Introduce to the 2020-2021 School Year

Butler Elementary concluded our Back to School Night "Series" following two-weeks of dedicated evenings for all grade levels. Grades 1 through 6 completed their evenings the week of September 14th, while Kindergarten and Learning Support met their families the week of September 21st. Each night held an opportunity for teachers and their students' families to meet virtually to discuss the year ahead. Special details and information about school, the classroom and expectations for the year were shared in each presentation. BTSN's were a success and teachers continue to feel the support offered by each of our families. Thank you for participating!

Butler HVAC Construction Update

Each day, important progress is being made during both the first and second shift of the construction plan. A majority of work to be completed is in the unfinished third of the building: encompassing the second and sixth grades, gym, cafeteria and kitchen. During the day shift, work completed is non-disruptive to the instruction taking place in our "opened" classrooms where teachers are working with children virtually. Second shift continues across all areas of the school - with focus on the final pieces for each classroom and corridors. Soon, the remaining classrooms will become available for our teachers working from home - and final reviews, inspections, and tests will be scheduled for student returns on October 26th!

Butler PTO General Meeting

It has been a while since The Butler PTO and our School Community has been able to "meet" at a Butler PTO General Meeting. On Monday, September 21st, our 2020-2021 PTO Parent Board introduced themselves to the families of our community sharing important business and plans for the year. While specifics are difficult to determine at this stage of the school year, our team continues to plan and process actions to assist with our school community while remaining fiscally responsible. First, we reviewed business left unfinished from last year and shared the new plans and procedures in-place for the current year. With so many different expectations, creativity will need to occur in order to connect our community while still following parameters of district social distancing expectations. Families were appreciative of the information and details - we have a great team at BUTLER!.

Register for the Butler PTO Family Directory!

The PTO is collecting contact information to publish a Butler Family Directory. This directory is password protected and the information is not used for any kind of solicitation. It is a great way for you to get connected to other families in the class, or in the Butler community, as teachers will not be publishing class lists. Many families found this to be a valuable resource during distance learning last school year. It is quick and easy and will only require a few minutes of your time. Click here to get started.
