Red Ribbon Week
Monday, Oct. 25 begins Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a national education week designed to teach our youth skills necessary to protect themselves from the dangers of alcohol and other drugs. Please support this effort to encourage our youth to make healthy informed choices and positive decisions now and throughout their lives.
This year’s annual message/theme is “What’s Your Why?” Why do you choose to be substance-free? Is it for your health, beliefs, school, goals, or family? Make sure to check out the calendar of events and participate in the spirit days!
Stevenson High School feeder schools - Daniel Wright, Aptakisic, Twin Groves, Woodlawn, and West Oak - are holding a contest around spirit day participation. Each day we will have a spirit day theme and we are aiming for the highest percentage of participation across all five days. Please encourage your students to get involved! In the end, one school will be the winner and when we win, every student will receive a coupon for ice cream at Culver’s!

District 103 News
Standardized Testing Update
After reviewing recent state and national standardized test results, District 103 students made progress over the course of the pandemic but did not grow at a rate consistent with pre-pandemic levels, according to a report to the School Board. The academic growth of D103 students was much higher than compared to students in many other districts.
The test results from the recent Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments, showed that Illinois students were a little over four months behind in their math and reading learning compared to what they might have been had the pandemic not occurred. In general, District 103 has seen less of an impact on their overall MAP scores than many other districts.
“As teachers work to meet the academic, social-emotional, and executive functioning needs of students, report cards and assessment results may look different than they have in the past. This is expected and recovery is going to take some time,” said Katie Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
To help our students rebound academically, data teams at each school are reviewing test results on an individual and classroom basis to determine who needs academic intervention and support. The goal is for teachers to teach current grade-level standards and fill in the learning gaps where needed to help bring students up to their grade level.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) results from Spring of 2021 will be mailed to families the first week in November.
