Ridley College Art & Design
a newsletter from Mrs.Auld & Ms.Barranca
Welcome to the 2013-14 school year!
As with the beginning of any year, the pencils are sharpened, supplies are stocked and sketchbooks distributed. I'd like to welcome all of the new faces to a very exciting school and program. Also, joining us this year as a part of the intermediate art team is Ms.Barranca, who will be teaching the 8B section. We both look forward to a great year of creation, expression and a lot of fun. Thank you for taking a few minutes to learn about what's going on in the art room!
What We HEART About Art
Students were asked to write their name and what they love about art, making art and art materials. All of their responses were compiled and are being displayed outside of the art room.
* Introducing the Five Alive Challenge *
Your Challenge.....is to....
As a fun anticipatory activity, students have been introduced to the FIVE ALIVE. A quick drawing, building or other type of challenge meant to get their creative juices flowing. The first challenge was a timed five minute drawing of some difficult subject matter... a horse. Afterwards, students shared their drawings "gallery walk" style. A discussion about being reflective of their own skills, attitudes and having an open mind ensued.
There were a lot of laughs. Take a look at some of the results.

Ridley College's Artsonia Gallery
This will be our second year using Artsonia as a lower school-wide gallery. If you already have an account, you will receive updates when your child has artwork posted. Please leave comments and praise as we love to show them off in class! Last year our gallery was ranked #1 in Ontario and we would love to earn our place again this year!
If you have any questions about Artsonia, feel free to contact Mrs. Auld.
