Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
Whether you are new to Meadow Park or a returning student, you will notice Monday is an important day at Meadow Park. In order to celebrate being part of the Meadow Park community and start the week off right, our staff traditionally wears Meadow Park shirts in what we call “Meadow Monday.” I want to encourage our students to participate as well! Many returning students already have some Meadow Park gear, but for our 6th graders and new 7th and 8th graders we are offering a new spirit shirt (and hoodie!) that can be ordered online through Friday, September 28th. After that time, we will place our order and have the shirts to everyone in October. If you are interested in ordering, please do so through the BSD Online Payment System using your ParentVue login information. If you are unable to log-in to ParentVue, don’t hesitate to contact the front office and we will be happy to assist you. You can also bring a check made out to Meadow Park Middle School to the front office ($10 for a shirt, $20 for a hoodie) and let them know you would like to order. The shirt and hoodie are both black with the new Incredibles inspired Meadow Park logo as seen on our staff HERE. In addition to Meadow Monday, we also celebrate “Future Friday” where our staff wears college gear and many of our students wear t-shirts or uniforms from the high school they will be attending after leaving Meadow Park. Although we don’t sell those shirts directly, we may have a few items available through our PARK store this school year. Speaking of which...
One of the other great things happening at Meadow Park is our staff utilizing PARK tickets to recognize students doing the right thing. From time to time, we will have a theme over a week or month that we are encouraging teachers to reinforce with the use of our PARK tickets. Now that students are understanding where their classes are, next week we will be encouraging staff to recognize students arriving on time to class, staying in the room, and coming with their materials in hand. This practice will vary a bit from class to class--some teachers will recognize every student every day, others might do the first 10 students to class, etc... Every Friday I run the PARK store during lunch where students can redeem their tickets for candy, trinkets, and other prizes. We started doing this about halfway through the last school year and it was a huge success. We are excited to offer it again and hope our students have plenty of opportunities to earn those tickets in the coming weeks. Encourage your student to get to each class on time next week and start stocking up those tickets for Friday.
As a final note, I want to say thank you to the many staff, students, and community partners who have made the opening week of the 18-19 school year a great one. There’s a lot of positive momentum in the building and that isn’t possible without a great deal of support from everyone. If you want to see some of those great happenings, I encourage you to follow us on your social media platform of choice. The Meadow Park Instagram is a particularly great place to see what’s happening here at Meadow Park. Follow the links below to check it out!
Let’s make the 2nd week as great as the first!

Technology Use During School Hours
Just a reminder that Meadow Park is an “off and away” school. This means students will be allowed to bring their phones to school, however during school hours they are to keep them off and put them away in a safe place. This decreases distractions and ensures that students are fully engaged throughout the day. If students need to call home, they will always have access to a phone in the health room or main office. If you need to contact your student urgently, please call the office (503-356-2640) and we will get them a message right away. We appreciate your support with this, as this is an area where sometimes students need clear expectations.
Continuing with the technology topic, here is a link to a great article on screen time and teenagers. We hope you find this article informative and relevant as a parent, especially with technology being present in every part of our lives.
