The River's Edge

River Bend Elementary School Newsletter April 2018

From the Principal...

Wow...I cannot believe it is already April! Time sure does fly!

Due to the snow days right before spring break, we did reschedule two school events. The kindergarten/first grade musical is rescheduled for Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. There is only a daytime performance; the night time performance is not being rescheduled. Families are welcome to attend the performance on April 10 at 2:00.

The RBES parent information night has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 19 at 5:30. See the flyer below. Dinner will be provided to those who RSVP, and the presentation will be, "Staying Safe in a Digital World."

Kindergarten registration was held in March. Anyone with kindergarten students can register any day at RBES Monday-Friday 8 am-4 pm. We encourage all parents with children starting kindergarten next year to register now. It helps us plan for next year.

Thank you to EVERYONE who supported our PTA Reading fundraiser and the school Joe Corbi fundraiser. I truly hope you know how much we appreciate your support of our school and especially our students.

April and May bring end of year testing with students in PreK-5 completing PALS assessments, and students in grades 3-5 completing Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. Details, including specific testing dates, will be going home soon.

Hopefully, we'll be enjoying some spring weather soon, and we hope to see in you in school!

RBES hosted its annual geography bee March 9, 2018! Our cardinals know their geography! We are very proud of all the participants! Congratuations to the runner-up Cale, and congratulations to the winner, Carson! Way to go!

Thank you to the PTA for Another Great Movie Night!

Thank you to our PTA for organzing the reading fundraiser for our school! One of the prizes was a limo ride to Dairy Queen for ice-cream!

RBES Book Fair!

The RBES Book Fair runs Monday, April 9-Friday, April 13th. We are open after school until 3:30 every day, but later on Wednesday afternoon (until 4:30). Grandparents are also invited for lunch and shopping all week. Just make a reservation for lunch with the school office if you haven't already done so!

PreK and Kindergarten Registration Has Begun!

RBES is open every day from 8 am- 4 pm for families to register for prek and kindergarten! If you have students who are prek and/or kindergarten age, please register now! It helps us to plan for classrooms when we have an accurate idea of our kindergarten numbers. If you have any questions about prek or kindergarten registration, please call the office.

Two Calendar Changes to the RCPS Calendar Due to Inclement Weather Right Before Break

  • APRIL 23 IS NOW A SCHOOL DAY! Please take note and make this change on your family calendars. This day is now being used as a make up day and no longer a day off for students in RCPS.

Wednesday, April 25 is Administrative Professionals/Secretaries Appreciation Day!

Please help us show our thanks to Ms. Morris, Ms. Ruhlman, and Ms. Simmons in our office for all they do for our students and school community. While we hope we show appreciation daily, this is a day designated to show our appreciation to them. If you or your student would like to send a note or token of thanks, feel free to do so!
