Academic Conversations
Here at Stapleton we are practicing academic conversations in our classrooms. We know students learn more when they have the opportunity to share their ideas with others. We are practicing what it means to be an active listener and how to respond to our classmates to better understand what they are saying. Students are showing they are listening by using eye contact, nodding and smiling. Students are responding in full sentences to classmates by asking questions about what they have heard and taking turns talking. We are hoping children will practice these skills at home with their parents.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Spring Parent-Teacher conferences are fast approaching! Here are some Tips for Parents: Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Literacy
MCAS Parade
The MCAS Parade was a success! 3rd-5th grade students all received encouragement through posters, cards and high-fives. Nice work everyone!

Math News
NEW DATE! Our Family Math Night has been rescheduled for May 9, 2023 from 6-7:30. We are looking forward to having fun with math and hearing from Dr. Susan Looney about how to support Math at home.
This week's Math at home: Would your child rather read than do math? That is okay! We can work with that. Read books about math! Grades 3-5 are all working on fractions and there are books about fractions and real life to read! Thihs link is for books specifically about fractions! https://www.the-best-childrens-books.org/fraction-lesson-plans.html There are many books about counting and math in the early grades as well. Here is a link to books about math from Stanford University. https://familymath.stanford.edu/activities/reading-together/. ~"Calculate a little kindness into every equation." Kris Callahan Math Coach
Character Trait of the Month
The character education theme of the month for March is “Confidence”. We have defined Confidence as feeling sure of yourself and your abilities. When children are confident, they believe in who they are and what they can achieve. Students have been taught the importance of accepting others for their differences and unique qualities; this month students will learn to acknowledge their own individual strengths and abilities and develop the belief that they can accomplish even the most difficult of tasks. Through morning meetings, focused read-alouds, and social emotional learning blocks in their classrooms, students will learn about the importance of accepting themselves, acknowledging their individual strengths, and developing a positive mindset to help them work on areas of their lives that present challenges. All of these actions will help instill a feeling of confidence and pride in their hard work and achievements. Students will develop a growth mindset and an understanding that they can accomplish anything that they set their minds to. Students will learn the importance of positive self talk and perseverance in achieving their goals both large and small. We welcome families to join the conversation with their children to strengthen our students' understanding of and the importance of Confidence!
