From the desk of the Principal

The character education word of the month is Perseverance.

Students of the Week

STUDENT: Jaila Cruz

As I filled out a Senior Ambassador recommendation for Jaila Cruz, I reflected upon something she did the first week of school. While I recognized how smart and responsible Jaila is, she is, without a doubt, the most positive person I have ever met. During the first week of school I had my students give short presentations about themselves. Many of my students were nervous, and Jaila was the perfect audience for them. She gave everyone her undivided attention and made positive and encouraging comments to each presenter. She made each student feel comfortable and appreciated. Over the eight years I have assigned this presentation, I have not encountered such a kind and empathetic student.

STUDENT: Luis Rivera

NOMINATED BY: Ms. Reinhardt & Mrs. Davis

Luis goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone around him is included and welcomed no matter the situation. During Senior Olympics Luis made sure that every member of his team who wanted to participate had the opportunity to do so, especially the Special Education students.

Indoor Percussion Rocks It in Wildwood!

From Mr. Spatz:

For the first time in it's history the EHT HS Indoor Percussion Ensemble is Atlantic Coast Champions with a high score of 94.75! They competed at the Wildwood Convention Center against groups from New York to Virginia. The show, Children of the Sun, told the story of the ancient Peruvian civilization of Machu Picchu from its discovery to its abandonment and rediscovery.

This was truly a community effort. It would not have been possible without the students' hard work over the past 5 months. Parents contributed by building and painting props, driving the equipment truck, and helping to load and unload equipment at competitions. Administration has been supportive by providing all the resources necessary to produce a championship-caliber group.

Upon arriving to EHT HS, students and staff were greeted by a police and fire escort. Students proudly wear their Children of the Sun t-shirts to school and proudly tell their friends about the accomplishment. Staff members and parents have shared photos and video of their championship performance on social media.

Indoor Color Guard Has Great Season and Breaks School Record!

The 2019 WInter Guard under the direction of Frank Stanton and Jack Stanton had a very successful season. Their show, Trial By Fire, was set to the song Fall in Line by Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato and was inspired by the Salem Witch Trials. The show was an instant crowd pleaser and the students were often stopped in the hallways at competitions and told how much everyone loved what they were doing. The judges also often commented that this is a whole new Egg Harbor Township Winter Guard and they are beyond impressed with the growth of the program over the last three years.

The guard competed in the Scholastic Intermediate A division in the Tournament Indoor Association which was a very competitive class this year. They also competed nationally at a Winter Guard International competition where they were crowned the champions of the Scholastic Regional A class. The guard sat down at the beginning of the season and set goals on what they would like to accomplish this season. It was decided that they wanted to finish in the top 5 at All Chapter Championships in Wildwood, New Jersey and break a score of 90, something that the guard has not done before. These were very lofty goals but the students showed up at every single rehearsal ready to get better and continue to grow as performers. At prelims in Wildwood, the students placed 8th with a score of 87.78. Going into semi finals the following day, they knew they needed to step up their performance and have a standout show. They did just that and jumped up into 5th place going into finals with a score of 91.05. At finals, the winter guard had their best performance of the season. They held their 5th place standing and finished with a score of 91.4, the highest score the guard received in school history.

The girls won the county championships last week. This is the first time they won since 2015.
Big picture

The Eagles finished last week with a tough matchup Thursday against our rivals, Mainland. After the top four scores were tallied, it was tied at 164. Katrina Cabinian led the way with a 37, Andrew Ngo shot 40, Colin Bagot shot 43 and Brett Alleva shot 44. Cabinian had a birdie and Ngo had two birdies. In the event of a tie, winner is decided by the 5th card. That happened to be Brett Campbell's 46 and gave the Eagles a huge win to ensure a 2nd place finish in the league.

On Tuesday of this week, the Eagles flew north for the NJSIAA South and Central Group 4 Sectional Tournament. The Eagles weathered the cold rain to a 13th place finish, but failed to qualify for next week's Tournament of Champions.

On Wednesday, the Eagles flew south for the Cape Atlantic League Individual Tournament. Brett Campbell shot a 77 to take home the title. He is the first EHT golfer since Eric Dekarski to win the crown. Brett was all business knowing that it was his last tournament and last chance for glory. He was focused and determined, starting his round with three birdies in his first five holes, and was able to hold on for the championship.

The boys lost a heartbreaker to Southern Regional last week, 3-2, in the 1st round of the state playoffs. The team score was tied 2-2, and the deciding point came down to the 1st doubles match, which went into a 3rd set tiebreaker (we lost 7-2). Andrew Yuen won 6-1,6-1 at 1st singles, and Neal Kamdar/Donovan Sullivan won in straight sets at 2nd doubles. The boys bounced back on Tuesday and defeated OC 4-1. The Senior Match will be our last home match, which is scheduled for this Friday, vs. AC. Come out to see Andrew Yuen, Sam Liang, Neal Kamdar, and Aman Sandilya play their final high school tennis match!

Record: 9-9 overall 5-4 Division

· EHT 15 Bridgeton 0
Winning Pitcher Gus Buzby improves to 2-0 on the year. EHT pounded out 13 hits on the day. Eagles with multiple hits included Ethan Dodd, Mike Dodd, Robbie Petracci, David Appolonia, and Garrett Smith.

EHT appears to have grabbed the #16 seed in the NJSIAA Group IV playoffs and will most likely travel to #1 seed and Diamond Classic Champion Shawnee on Monday May, 20th.
