On the Trail - Mustang Families
May 2- 6
We love our Mustang Staff
It is appreciation week and on behalf of all of our Mustang community, we want to thank all of our staff who work so hard to help our Mustangs on their path at the Trail and beyond.
There is not a harder working or more caring staff out there and we are so grateful to them all!
They deserve many thanks (more than a week or day) and we want them to know that they matter, are loved and are amazing!
We invite you, our families and students, to send the staff members you admire a message to show your gratitude either via Synergy email or a handwritten note. Let them know you care.
Thank you for your support as we enter this final stretch giving it our all for all of our Mustangs!

Important Items for Mustang Success
Conflict Mediation - refer someone else or self refer
Struggling students? Reporting incidents or concerns
- refer students in "drama" or in "need" to conflict mediation
- seek help by connecting with counselors or admin as needed
Students can self refer to conflict mediation as well. See the form above for referrals.
Remind students of our Anonymous Incident Reporting system on our website. It allows for anonymous reporting of bullying, self harm, violence, harassment and more. If the person allows us, we can also communicate two way to get additional details while they still remain anonymous if they choose.
SAFETY first! ------ If you see something, say something
Please remember to tell an adult if you see something so that we can help everyone on our campus and off campus as well. And, keep doing what is right Mustangs and treat others how you would expect to be treated. You Matter and All of our Mustangs and Community Matter. Let's show the world how great it is to be a Mustang!

Bell Schedule 2022-23
As is stated in the EGUSD communications: SB 328 requires that middle schools cannot start earlier than 8:00 a.m. and high schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
MTHS has a new schedule next year to meet the SB 328 requirements AND we have developed a schedule to implement a "Trail Time" period in the school day so that students will have dedicated time once per week per period in order to do collaborative study groups, retakes, intervention, peer tutoring and more.
We will be developing time to teach our students about this period at the start of the 2022-23 school year and staff will be trained on specific tools and strategies to help reach all students during this time.
Specific details within the school day will be release in the summer newsletter in June/July.
The start times and end times for your planning are here:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - regular days - 8:30 am - 3:39pm
Thursday - late start - 9:50am - 3:39pm
There of course will be some special schedules for reverse minimum days, PSAT day, grad rehearsal, final schedules, rallies and assemblies but those will be shared in the newsletter in summer.
Good news to share on the Trail!
DATA academy
On April 9th, DATA teamed up with the Camden Neighborhood Association to help with their spring carnival. DATA students helped to run the Easter Egg Hunt, game booths and face painting activities.
104 DATA Students participated in the CyberStart America Competition. 12 of these students have been just notified that they are National Cyber Scholarship Semifinalists and are eligible for scholarships and awards. This next step of the competition will continue until May 15 and recognitions will be this summer. Last summer three of our students each received scholarships in the amount of $2500. In addition, DATA will be awarded the Cyber Opportunity Gold Award which is awarded to schools with over 40 competitors in the competition.
Climate change maker film festival
One of our talented Mustang students, Matthew Agustin, will be featured in the upcoming film festival. He entered and was shortlisted for the Climate Changemaker Teen Film Festival, that took place on Earth Day (April 22nd). With over 300 entries from 48 countries that was a great accomplishment. He is also up for People's Choice Award.
History Day
In March, Mustang participants headed out to Inderkum High School for their day-long History Day Competition - Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures, and Consequences.
Emily Tran, Joe Nguyen, and Sky Phan represented us well in the website category.
David Cruz and Yiqin Rong received the Chinese History Award for their exhibit Korematsu v. United States: Civil Liberties and National Security.
And Linda Duong and Adrianne Nguyen received the SSVMS Medical History Award for their exhibit Conversion Therapy: War Between Psychological Awakenings.
Both exhibit entries are champion winners that will proceed to the state competition next week.
Sports
Congratulations to our boys volleyball team who won the Metropolitan League Championship and finished league play undefeated with a record of 12-0. We will host Franklin High School on Tuesday at 7 pm in the first round of the Sac Joaquin Section Playoffs.
Womens Softball
Lead by the outstanding coaching mentoring of the Coronado Brothers (both teachers) Fo & Dave! Our women's softball team has had one of its greatest season! Just recently they defeated Kennedy High School for the first time. They also have collected the most wins in school history this season!
Swimming
Coach Hillary who is also our Head Water Polo Coach does an AWESOME job developing our off campus pool athletes with Confidence, Integrity, Respect & she’s built and community! Being off campus as a sport would be a tough task as it is!!! She is tremendously respected by her student-athletes and coaches her at MT! It’s nice to hear students talk about how great their high school experiences have been while competing and learning from her!
Dual Sport
For the second time in school history we have a same season dual sport athlete….Our swim team is doing fantastic, lead by Niya Bumbaca! She at one point of this spring season was swimming in the morning before school, going to school then playing center field for the girls softball team! She is truly amazing, we are lucky to have such and great role model!!!
Track & Field
Our track and field team lead by On Campus Teacher Physical Education Carlo De Castro looks to win not only the league title but possibly the SJS Track & Field Section title in the up and coming weeks. One of the best traditions out school does at track meets is to greet a “green wall”, effectively at the end of every meet to support the end of the meets distance run! Most schools leave and those athletes don’t get the kind of support our program provides. It’s neat to see the entire track program use creative ways to develop the “green wall” formation to support their teammates!!!
Baseball
Our Varsity only baseball team under new Head Coach Matt Anderson (On Campus Art Teacher) has the team competing and the culture is on the up swing! A lot of good bats producing championship effort. Gabe Coronado is leading the team with the highest batting average and his only a freshman!!!
Legendary Coach Kingsley Claudy is back coaching the men's Volleyball team. You can just see the pride and loyalty the boys have towards their sport, coach and program with his hall of fame direction!
Our Tennis team is looking strong lead by on campus coach Aidan Ford (History)! He is developing the Mustang Culture of Integrity, Confidence, Respect and Community!
Golf
In Golf, on campus teacher Mr. DiLoreto (History) has continued to impress with his commitment not only to the school as an AWESOME year round teacher, but building and establishing a top notch golf team each and every year!!!
Scholarships
On May 5th MTHS will have 13 of our seniors recognized as Elk Grove Regional Scholarship recipients for over $31,000 in scholarships including having a student recognized receiving the Elk Grove Citizen of the Year Scholarship
These are just some of the amazing stories about our talented students and staff at MT! You make us all proud and we thank you for representing MTHS, the community and yourselves so well!
GO MUSTANGS!
WELLNESS and Self-Care and Support
We want everyone to be well so here are some reminders of resources available in the picture below. We also have our own Employee Assistance Program: 1 (800) 646-9923.

Health and Safety FIRST - masks on and no food deliveries allowed
Thank you to all who have continued to respect our safety rules/policies.
No Food Deliveries -
As sent at the beginning of the year, all staff members have been instructed to not have potlucks due to COVID safety protocols AND we will NOT accept food deliveries of any kind at the front office nor through gates, etc.
In addition: Our school does not allow deliveries of food items from third party vendors such as Grub Hub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. This is to ensure the safety of our staff and students. We cannot have strangers coming to the school gates/main office to make transactions with students. These items will be refused.
When a student takes a delivery through the gates, the items will be taken for pick up after school and discarded if not picked up.
Remember, all students receive free lunch at MT this year. There is no need for these deliveries so please respect the policy.
Masks on and other protocols continue:
Daily protocols:
- Masks strongly recommended indoors
- Do not come to school if you have symptoms - staff contact admin and students/families contact the school for admin to then follow protocols directed by nurses in contact with the county and health authorities
- Recommended wear masks in large groups outdoors - our lunch and passing periods for example
- Help remind students of the protocols as you pass by and in your classrooms/offices, etc.
