First Grade AIM
Ancient China
This week in AIM...
Now that we have completed our shadow puppet plays it's time to finish planning for our Chinese New Year Party (a little late that's just the way our school calendar works)! Today we worked in rotations making drums for our dragon dance (the directions were out of order so they needed to rely on their sequencing skills to figure it out), learned how to use chopsticks, wrote a few greetings & lanterns and completed a scavenger research hunt on key New Years facts. I am also really working with them on eliminating some of their natural tendency to immediately ask for help when it seems a little challenging. It's important that they learn to really think about it and take pride in figuring stuff out for themselves! Next week we will test out our chopstick skills by sharing a few New Year treats, (I also have the red envelopes with chocolate money etc.,) perform our dance etc., Many suggested wearing red which I thought was a great idea!
