Our Vision: Learning and Growing in Christ

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Ni Sa Bula Vinaka, Kia Orana, Hola como Estas, Marhaba, Greetings to you all.
Big picture

On Sunday we celebrated Waitangi Day. In the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, a partnership was established, a relationship forged. All people of this nation are party to that partnership, that relationship. On this day we pray for a greater understanding of that partnership, for respect and tolerance among all peoples and for wise governance of our nation. Let’s take a few moments to pray:

For the Church – that we seek unity with all who profess faith in the Gospel and strive to build bridges of understanding and peace.

For our nation, Aotearoa New Zealand – that the rich diversity of our land, life and cultures will be deeply valued and become a source of peace among people and hope for the future.

For the people of Aotearoa New Zealand – that we respond constructively to the call to reconciliation and honorable partnership, set out in the Treaty of Waitangi.

For natural taonga: air, water, land and bush – that people grow in an understanding of our deep connection with, and need to care for, the entire natural world.

For parents and educators - that their role in educating towards understanding and acceptance be promoted and valued.

Concluding Prayer:

God who draws people together in unity and understanding, may we follow you with eager hearts, building reconciliation where there is hurt, understanding where there is intolerance and peace where there is division. We make this prayer through Christ who lights our way. Amen.

New Parish Priests

A very warm welcome to our new Parish Priest Father Andrew Matthew and his assistant Father Albertus Suprapto. We look forward to working with them and having them support us all on our spiritual journey.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents

We were delighted to see the majority of our students back at school for the start of the 2022 school year and we are hoping that all students will be able to return as soon as possible. We fully understand the individual situations of different families but we would like to encourage everyone to return to face to face learning as soon as possible.

Please inform the school office if your child is absent for any reason as it is most important that we are able to monitor our students’ attendance and enter the correct code which reflects the reason for their absence.

Sincere thanks to all our families for their cooperation and understanding of our school's procedures at the start and end of the school day. We will continue with this until we move to the orange traffic light phase.

We wish to remind parents, caregivers and whanau that the gates open at 8.15am and school finishes at 2.50pm. We need to adhere to these times as we are trying to keep our students safe and want to avoid them mixing across classes, and keep within a bubble as much as possible.

Remember keeping ourselves safe is most important

  • Handwashing and hygiene

  • Masks - worn correctly by everyone Year 4 and above. We suggest that Year 3 children may like to wear masks too as we have multi-level Year 3 / 4 classes.

Attendance Dues

We are expecting all children back at school now. Please note that Attendance Dues are compulsory and payable for the term even if your child is absent for any reason. Attendance Dues for 2022 are $117.00 per child per term.

Swimming Sports

Sadly due to the current traffic light restrictions we are unable to have our Papatoetoe Schools Swimming Sports this term and therefore we will not be selecting and training a School Team.

NO SCHOOL LUNCHES IN TERM 1

Due to Covid-19, there will not be any school lunches on Fridays for this term. We are in need of volunteers for the lunch roster when we resume school lunches. If you would be available to help, please phone the School Office on 09 2788224 and leave your name and phone number.

School Uniforms

Thank you for using our booking system to purchase uniforms, this will continue for another week and then we will go back to the following days and times; Tuesday and Thursday morning 8.00am till 9.30am and on Wednesday afternoons from 3.00pm - 4.00pm.

If you know the uniform size you require you can also purchase online by emailing Carlie at. carliek@hcsp.nz who will respond if the uniform is in stock. You then make a deposit to the following account ASB 12 3028 0484186 00 Reference child’s name and uniform

and send her a screenshot showing the payment and she will deliver the uniform to your child.

Unfortunately not all the sizes are currently available so if your child is waiting for uniforms, they may wear the school PE uniform which is plain black shorts and the regulation PE shirt available from the uniform shop.

Please remember a school hat is compulsory as we are a sunsmart school and having no hat prevents a child from playing. Please mark all clothing clearly so if misplaced it can be returned to the owner immediately.

Stationery and Book Bags

The stationery your child will need for the school year has been purchased and delivered to their classrooms. The cost for this is $15.00 per child. An invoice will be sent home with your child next week. This needs to be paid by the end of March at the school office or by automatic payment to ASB 12 3028 0484186 00 Reference child’s name and stationery. You will receive a separate account for Camp when we are able to finalise these events.

All children must have a book bag which they bring to school everyday ( this is compulsory.)

Many children already have a book bag so this was not added to the basic stationery list but if your child does not have one they are available in the office for $4.00.

Communication

We have several methods of communication and we ask that parents please sign up to Seesaw via the Class Teacher and the School App (see below) so you can be well informed of what is happening at school.

You can also go to our website. https://hcsp.school.nz/or check the school facebook page.

School App

Download our school app (which is free) so that you receive announcements and newsletters from school to keep you up to date.

This is what the app looks like on either the PlayStore (for Android phones) or the App Store (for iPhones). Please download it if you haven’t done so already.

Confidential Contact Forms

On Monday each family will receive a yellow form to complete with all the necessary contact details, medical information and emergency details. Please ensure this is updated and returned to school by Monday 14 February as we want to ensure all contact details are correct and up to date. It is very important that we receive these forms in the School Office so that we have up to date contact details in case your child is ever in the sick bay. Thank you.

School Council

On Tuesday 15 February at 2.00pm we will be announcing our school leaders and house leaders. Unfortunately we will not be doing this at a School Mass or Assembly and parents cannot attend as Covid number restrictions prevent this. We will arrange for Father Andrew to bless the School Council and we will post some photos and videos from this event on our website.
