Raider Nation Staff Newsletter
Week of October 21, 2019
Hello Raider Nation,
It is a much needed wet and rainy Sunday. I hope you all are staying dry!
This week’s newsletter will be short. I want to bring to your attention information that was released by HCPSS on Friday regarding some tests done here at Atholton and other schools around the county. Information was uploaded on the HCPSS website regarding legionella testing conducted in water systems in schools throughout the county. The public release identifies steps that have been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. You may access the public release here. Please feel free to reach out to those listed with any questions you may have.
Just a reminder from our staff meeting regarding expectations of students with D’s and E’s:
Outreach to parent(s) by the end of last week (10/18).
Outreach includes a phone call, email, and/or conference
Document date and time of outreach
Also, as discussed in our staff meeting, the school improvement team is seeking volunteers to serve on three committees -- discipline, graduation, and post-secondary indicators. This is your opportunity to get involved and be a part of the decisions that take place at Atholton. Please contact Thomas Stuppy or Deirdre Lindsey if you would like to join a committee.
Once again congratulations to Sheila Carr-Spence who was elected chair of the Staff Advisory Committee by its members. Below are the members of the committee. Feel free to reach out to them if you have any concerns you would like addressed.
Jennifer Edwards, Jessie Moore, Rachelle Eichert, Kate Trout, Howard Krasilovsky, Jimmie Mowder, Laura Cassard, Emily Dalton, Lynette Burns, Nicholas Johnson
A huge thank you to everyone for your cooperation during PSAT testing. In case you didn't know, we celebrated NINE National Merit Semifinalists and TWENTY-FIVE Commended students from last year. Hopefully we will match or exceed those numbers this year. Below is a list of students. Be sure to congratulate our seniors.
National Merit Semifinalists: Elizabeth Ake, Ethan Fan, Benjamin Guo, Daniel Osheroff, Benjamin Recht, Annabel Smoot, Bill Tong, Rohan Uttamsingh, Jessica Wu
Commended Students: Lucas Baglione, Jon Bailey, Matthew Bang, Zoe Baskerville, Luke Bowling, Madison Garrigus, Liza Goldberg, Megan Hessler, Luke Kadingo, Christina Kim, Anna Kulikova, Charlotte Lang, Lanna Ly, Justin Meyer, Gabrielle Moomaw, Will Morales, Joelle Popa, Divija Sadula, Ezra Silver-Isenstadt, Leilah Smith, Emma Szympruch, Brian Tarantino, Kinsley Wargo, Raymond Xu, Chera Yoon.
Finally, I want to make sure that we are consistent in expectations regarding staff and field trips. We realize that it is often difficult to find colleagues to assist and chaperone on field trips. However, we are finding that student to staff ratios are often not followed and this leaves us in a bind regarding coverage. Therefore, we are asking the sponsor of the field trip to seek approval from your assigned administrator of any additional staff accompanying you on the field trip. This will allow us to maintain the expected ratios and cut down on coverage issues. Thanks so much for your assistance.
See you tomorrow!
Robert
