Assistant Principal's Corner
Hello families,
As we embrace the weekend, I wanted to share with you few announcements. End-of-Course examination scores are not here yet so US government grades are not finalized and will be updated once the scores come in. Also, if you would like to place your son/daughter in ILE (Innovative Learning Environment), it has to be Covid-19 related only. Also, it needs to be approved by myself and/or the Principal of the Deaf department, Angela Saunders. Lastly, senior student families have already received deferral letters. Please discuss with your senior son/daughter if they want to stay one more year or so in order to prepare further for scholar's diploma or to receive industrial certification and experience in the trades, such as attending First Coastal Technical College. If yes, then fill the form where you are to, i.e. name and date, and either 1) Have it mailed to our front office addressed to Jay Girton, our IEP Coordinator, or 2) Send it back with your son/daughter asking them to drop the deferral letter off at our front office. Please have the letters sent back by Monday, March 11th.
Stay safe,
Dina Rae

FSDB DHS Attendance Policy
I wanted to share with you the attendance policy that you are all familiar with via the parent handbook. Students may not receive credit toward graduation for any High School block 1.0 credit class in which the student has more than 8 unexcused absences, or for any 0.5 credit class in which the student has more than four unexcused absences. ASL version is below.
From Mel Goodall - Director of Student Life
James Hall is recognizing Black History Facts for the Month of February. The girls will be supplied with a Black History fact each week during Curriculum for the month. We have posted a Black History Board with some notable names, pictures, and facts about some famous Black people. We are mainly focusing on Black women in History to show our young ladies, just because you are a woman does not mean you can’t make history.
This month in Rhyne Hall, we have our annual Superbowl party. We had burgers, hot dogs, and several kinds of deserts that the staff made. We streamed football game with projector on the side of Rhyne hall and cooked outside.
We took all the students’ PBiS tickets and put them in a basket and picked six winners. The winners received a $5.oo gift card to a local store. We have had several new staff join the dorm this past month, Jarman and Eva. Welcome aboard. We also had several new students join our dorm. All the boys have been very welcoming to the new faces in Rhyne hall. For curriculum and community service for this month we will be focusing on teaching the boys about COMPASSION.

PBiS Incorporates Character Education
FSDB PBiS students are developing great character! Each month, FSDB focuses on a different positive character trait. This month we are emphasizing responsibility. Some of the phrases associated with responsibility that we are introducing to the students include: Do what you are supposed to do • Plan ahead • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your words, actions and attitudes • Set a good example for others. Teachers and boarding staff are asked to include lessons that may fit into the curriculum naturally. We are excited with this character education emphasis at FSDB. We are hoping that our students continue to be their very best now and in the future.
