Mission & Vision
The VISION of Chapel Hill Middle School is to promote teacher empowerment, involve parents and the community in the school's success and equip students with the academic instruction, social and emotional development and character education necessary for their future endeavors.
Principal's Corner
Good Day CHMS Families,
As we continue to navigate the 2020-2021 school year, both virtually and in-person, we will continue to provide you with the latest updates. We hope you will take the time to read over this newsletter carefully.
I hope you all are able to enjoy the warmer temperatures we seem to be getting more and more of lately! Getting outside, soaking in some much-needed Vitamin D from the sun is one of the activities I have intentionally included in my schedule to maintain my own mental health during these unusual times.
What are you doing to maintain and/or improve your mental health? Please remember to take some time on a regular basis to engage in your own preferred method of self-care, so that you can continue to give the highest level of care to those around you.
We are happy to say that, with the return of all Cohorts of students to Hybrid instruction, we have finally achieved a greater sense of normalcy. We know there have been struggles, but we feel confident that our instructional platforms, our student and family outreach, and our health protocols are working well.
I personally would like to thank our students, parents, and community members for all of their support during this challenging school-year. As we continue to move forward, we encourage parents to remain vigilant in monitoring your student's well-being and course grades through Infinite Campus.
With the return of our students to Hybrid Learning, it is imperative that students remain informed regarding our safety policies. In order to ensure the safety of all students and staff, we ask that students continue to practice health protocols without exception. Students must wear masks properly, practice physical distancing, wash and disinfect hands. Safety is our top priority!
Lastly, I want to continue to express my gratitude for the CHMS Faculty and Staff. What a wonderful job they are doing keeping students engaged, learning and excited about school each day during this crazy year. We are so lucky to have such a hardworking group of individuals.
Regards,
Mr. Michael Alexander

GMAS ASSESSMENTS ARE COMING APRIL 20-29
What can I do to help my student?
- Virtual Students who are coming in for testing, please ensure that you have your students at school at 8:10; the student must be picked up after the testing window by 12 noon.
- Students who are prepared, calm, and rested perform better on tests. Here are some of the many ways to help your student approach Georgia Milestones in a relaxed, positive way:
- Encourage your student to employ good study and test-taking skills. These skills include following directions carefully, avoiding careless errors, and reviewing work.
- Explain the purpose of the tests. The assessments give students an opportunity to show what they have learned in school. They also give teachers information that helps them plan instruction.
- Point out that some items may be more difficult than others.
- Be certain your student gets plenty of sleep and has a healthy breakfast and lunch. Taking tests is hard work for many students and can require a lot of energy.
- Be certain your student is at school on time. Rushing and worrying about being late could affect performance on the tests.
- Remember to ask your student about the testing at the end of each day.

Regional/Community Townhall
2021-2022 School Year
As DSCD plans for the 2021-2022 school year, we’re considering the needs of our students and teachers. It’s important that we continue to focus on student outcomes and plan for 5-days of full-time, in-person learning for all students next year. While we’re focused on in-person learning, we’re excited to be expanding FLEX Academy to offer virtual remote learning as an option for middle and high school students. The virtual option will be an extension of FLEX academy but connected to each home school.
In an effort to gather thoughts and ideas from our DCSD community regarding the 2021-2022 school year, we’ll host regional/community town halls April 27th - 29th. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending the virtual meetings, based on the schedule below.
