USC Upstate is happy to announce that they are participating in South Carolina’s College Application Month and offering application fee waivers to all high school seniors interested in applying to USC Upstate. This is a $40 savings to all who apply. Simply choose the “College Application Day fee waiver” when asked to pay online. The deadline has been extended to November 15th.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS: ACT and SAT
General Information
Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of the student/parent to register for the ACT and SAT tests. The C&A staff can answer questions at any time. Log on to sat.org/register or www.actstudent.org to register.
- The ACT / SAT are college admissions tests & aid institutions in determining a student’s potential for success in college. (Students planning on attending a 2-year or technical college generally do NOT need to take either test.) Colleges/universities in S.C. accept both ACT and/or SAT scores. Students should refer to the admission requirements for each institution they plan to attend.
- If you plan to take the ACT, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you take the writing component at least once. It is not so necessary on subsequent retakes.
- If you are a special needs student and would like to request testing accommodations for the ACT or SAT, it is your responsibility to initiate the process by discussing the procedure with your counselor. The process is very time-consuming (minimum 6 – 8 weeks). Each testing agency (College Board / ACT) has its own application for accommodations.
VERY IMPORTANT! Please make sure that you fill in the school code for River Bluff High School when registering for the ACT/SAT. If you fail to do this, our school will NOT receive your scores. The school testing code is 411292.

Help with revisions
WHO: Any RB student who has a paper due in ANY class, not just English, and would like help.

100 Black Men Scholarship- $500
About the 100 Black Men
The mission of the 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia, Inc. is to improve the quality of life for citizens within our communities, with a special emphasis on our youth, particularly in the areas of mentoring, education, economics and financial literacy, and health and wellness. Additional information may be found on our website.
The 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia, Inc. is currently accepting applications for our 2018-2019 Scholarship Program. Scholarships are valued at $500 per academic year and are renewable for up to four (4) years (for a maximum of $2,000). The scholarship application is attached. Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 1, 2019 and scholarship presentations will be made at our Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet in May 2019.

AXA Achievement Scholarship-$2,500-$25,000
The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college. The scholarship is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA US.
The 2019 program will be accepting applications from September 1, 2018 until 10,000 applications are submitted or December 14, 2018, whichever comes first. Your application MUST be one of the first 10,000 completed and submitted electronically by the deadline date. Apply early!
National Beta Scholarship
12th grade students who are active National Beta members and duly registered with the national headquarters by November 1, of their senior year, are eligible to apply and participate in the scholarship competition. Selection of National Beta Scholarship winners is based on a number of factors with special emphasis on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, commendable character, school and community service, as well as National Beta Involvement.
How to Apply:
- Beginning November 1, 2018, you may access the National Beta Scholarship application online.
- Enter your National Beta membership identification number and last name to gain access to the application—if you do not have this information, please ask your Beta Club Sponsor.
- Complete the application.
- You are required to submit your high school transcript and your ACT or SAT scores. Copies of these documents can be uploaded directly into your application. Your documentation will be verified for authenticity.
- Submit your completed application and pay the $15 processing fee (via credit card) by 11:59 pm EST January 24, 2019*.

Hampton Wildlife Fund Multiple Scholarships
Wallace F. Pate- Scholarship for students in the natural resources disciplines of wildlife biology, fisheries, biology, forestry, marine or environmental science. 1 year only $2,500.
David M. Cline- Scholarship for students who wish to further their education in law enforcement/criminal justice/forensic science. (Forensic pathology does NOT qualify)

James O Thomason Scholarship for students who wish to further their education in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications. 4 year $2,000

"Here Today" Music Scholarship
Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders
Since 1982, USHLI has awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships and internships to students from disenfranchised groups. Most notably, the Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders seeks to recognize Hispanics students who share Dr. Andrade’s lifelong commitment to servant leadership. Recipients will receive two non-renewable scholarships – a conference scholarship to attend the 37th USHLI National Conference and an academic scholarship ($1,000 for a 4-year institution or $500 for a 2-year institution) for undergraduate students. The application is due November 30, 2018, at 11:59 PM CT.
Scholarship Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time undergraduate students, in an accredited four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories, and demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support. At least one parent must be of Hispanic ancestry. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply (DACA or Undocumented). Recipients must also be available to attend the 37th USHLI National Conference in Chicago, IL, from February 14-17, 2019.

Lamber-Goodnow Scholarships-$1,000
Creative thought, motivation and execution are important to us. Innovation is just as important in the legal process as it is in the rest of life. To make progress and improve upon our circumstances and surroundings, we must be willing to take risks that can influence and drive positive change. We want to support students who buck the trend, think outside of the box and deliver on this concept in everyday life and in school.
Two $1,000 Scholarship Awards

Your essay:
A) Submit a 500- to 750-word essay to scholarship@lambergoodnow.com by or on December 1, each year.
B) Tell us how you are driven to innovate, how you plan to influence progress on any level in any space or how you have already affected positive change with creative thinking.
C) We will choose finalists whose essays may be posted on our website and voted on via social media likes, shares, tweets and +1s. While this may have some influence on the eventual winning essays, it is not the sole basis of our final decisions.
D) Two finalists will be awarded $1,000 scholarships for education expenses at schools of their choice.
Eligibility criteria for applicants:
A) Enrolled at an accredited high school, college or university. Please note that all types of colleges, including four-year, community colleges and "junior colleges" qualify for eligibility.
B) Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8.

Lyceum Scholarships to Clemson University- $10,000
The Lyceum Scholars Program at Clemson University is a $10,000 scholarship for incoming freshmen to study the moral, political, and economic foundations of a free society.
Lyceum Scholars read the Great Books of Western Civilization and discuss timeless questions such as:
- What makes a society free?
- What makes a society prosperous?
- What are the principles of the American Founding?
This program is an eight-course sequence that students take together as an intellectual cohort over their undergraduate career. The Lyceum Scholars Program is open to any major and fulfills the requirements for a minor in Political Science.

Frances Marion University - McNair Scholars Program
- McNair Scholars will receive free tuition, fees, book allowance, and room and board for the four years they attend Francis Marion University.
- Opportunity to travel abroad during spring break of the freshman year.
- Opportunity to study abroad in one of nine exchange student programs. McNair Scholars can choose to study in Canada, England, France, Germany, and Ireland.
- Admission to the Francis Marion Honors Program. This includes the opportunity to travel on the yearly Honors trip held every Fall. Locations include New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
- Opportunity to participate in the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City every spring.
- Early class registration.
- Upgraded Housing. McNair Scholars will live in the Forest Villas Apartments, the newest housing on campus. These furnished units contain four private bedrooms, two bathrooms, and shared living room and kitchen space. (One and two bedroom units may be available).
- Experiential Learning Opportunities outside the classroom.
- Participation in public service activities to further strengthen the local community.
The Robert E. McNair Scholarship application is online and is part of the Francis Marion University Undergraduate Admissions application. * Complete applications are due no later than December 1. Finalists will be invited to a personal interview on campus in January. Awards will be announced by late January. Applicants who are not selected will be considered for other FMU scholarships.
Pinot's Palette Scholarship- $1,000
To be eligible for the Pinot's Palette Scholarship for Artistic Excellence, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the U.S.
- U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents.
- Anticipating completion of high school diploma in spring of 2019.
- Planning to pursue a degree in the arts at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.

Interested in Teaching? Apply to become a Teaching Fellow - Up to a $24,000 scholarship
Administered by CERRA-South Carolina, the Program provides fellowships for up to 200 students each year (actual number determined by funding from the General Assembly). These students participate in enrichment programs at a Teaching Fellows Institution, engage in professional development and leadership opportunities, partner with communities and businesses, and receive up to a $6,000 fellowship annually for four years as long as they are in the process of completing a degree leading to teacher certification and meet the criteria to continue in the program. A Fellow must agree to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for each year he/she receives funding.
Any student who is a legal resident of South Carolina (DACA students are not eligible for Teaching Fellows) and a current high school senior, or junior graduating early, and who will be attending college as a freshman in the fall of 2019, may apply. Fellowships are based on academic achievement, references, community and school involvement, an interview and a writing assessment. Students must attend one of the ten Teaching Fellows Institutions. Currently, these include Anderson University, Charleston Southern University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Lander University, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate, and Winthrop University.
Please encourage all students who are interested in teaching in South Carolina and who meet the qualifications for participation to submit an application, and share this information with your faculty and greater school community. The online application will open September 1, 2018. The deadline for submission will be December 1, 2018, with notification to Fellowship recipients in early spring 2019.
Students who are awarded Teaching Fellows must also have a surety sign the promissory note to receive funds. For applicants who are eighteen (18) years of age, the surety must be over twenty-one (21) years of age. For applicants under eighteen (18) years of age, the surety must be a parent or guardian. Students without a surety cannot be awarded Teaching Fellows.
The application will be available on the CERRA Web site at teachingfellowsc.com beginning on September 1st.
Unigo Education Matters Scholarship- $5,000
As a scholarship seeker, you're probably already well-aware of the importance of an education. But, what about the naysayers? Have you come across someone who's tried to talk you out of college, saying that it's not worth it?
While continuing your education takes time, and money, there's a certain value that everyone is hoping to achieve. Our Education Matters Scholarship is giving you the chance to state why education matters. Why does education matter to you? What is the value you hope to receive from college? What would you do to convince the college cynics?

Seniors are given TWO excused absences for College Days. In order to have the absences excused, it will be necessary to turn in a note on college letterhead with the student's name and date of the visit. This should be turned in to Mrs. Wood in Attendance.
WATCH your ATTENDANCE – remember that absences count for each class -- a maximum of 10 days for a full year class, 5 days for a ½ year class.

Archibald Rutledge Scholarship
The South Carolina Department of Education is announcing the Archibald Rutledge Scholarship Program. This annual program offers public school twelfth-grade students the opportunity to compete for a scholarship worth approximately $2,000 in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and recognize academic and artistic excellence. Applicants may participate in one of the following discipline areas: creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts. The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program
The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program at The University of Texas at Dallas is one of the nation’s most generous and selective undergraduate merit awards. In order to qualify for the scholarship an individual must complete the official scholarship form. The winner from each school must attend an accredited college, university or technical school to validate the scholarship. The scholarship is a random drawing by April 1st or before Awards Night. NHA Scholarship Fund
This scholarship an individual must be a prospective or current high school graduate and the natural, step, or adopted son, daughter or grandchild, or a spouse, of a current or former Navy, USMC or Coast Guard rotary wing aviator or air crewman. Spartanburg Methodist College Scholars Program
A full tuition financial package is offered to seniors who graduate with a 3.0 grade point average. In addition, students can also qualify for "Open House Scholarships" of $500 when they visit campus on an Open House Day.

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grants (TEACH) will be available at some colleges and universities beginning this academic year.
