CVTE Linkages

September 2021

Implementation Meeting Recap

  • This year, the Commonwealth’s CCTE board is focused on improving equity and access of CVTE programs within the state. This means, implementing culturally responsive practices, improving gender equity in programs, as well as disaggregating data to identify and quantify any disparities in equity and access for special populations.
  • DESE would like to provide families with Chapter 74 program information in “plain language” or family friendly language. Currently, on DESE’s website, families can view your school and all of its available programs. DESE would like to add a 1-page info-guide for each program.
  • CCTE is seeking to incorporate the student voice within their programming. If you have any students interested in assisting with creating the 1-page info-guide, please refer them to Nikita in order to connect them to the appropriate person within DESE. This would be a great way to provide families program information from the student lens.
  • The PELL Experiment program has officially ended for future students.
  • College Access is in the process of renewing the Articulation Agreements for the next two years. We are anticipating having the contracts sent out to district superintendents by the end of the term.
  • For anyone seeking to develop additional pathways for articulation, please feel free to email Nikita directly at Nikita.Viera@Bristolcc.edu.

South Coast CVTE Partners Represented in DESE's VTE Advisory Council

Bristol's College Access is thrilled to announce that the Commonwealth's Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education, Jeffrey Riley, has appointed Nikita L. Viera to the advisory council of Vocational Technical Education for DESE. Nikita will serve on the Commonwealth's VTE Advisory Council for the full term of three years. Among the great work we are doing in College Access to support your students, this is an additional opportunity for the voices of our Bristol County teachers and students to be amplified at the state level. If you have a moment, please join Bristol in congratulating Nikita at Nikita.Viera@Bristolcc.edu.
