Notes from our Director
Hello DATA community,
It was fun to see many of our DATA students this past week during STAAR English I and II EOC testing. Thank you to all who were able to come and test as we worked through some technical testing issues but were able to have many of our students complete the EOCs successfully. We look forward to seeing your great results. If you were not able to attend the testing, there will be a few online make-up testing opportunities this week. Please let myself or Mrs. Lockamy know if you need to make-up one of the English EOCs this week.
I have had several requests for students to be able to return to campus for in-person learning as this year is in the final few weeks of the year. Yes, ALL students who want to come back for in-person learning can come back. We would love to have you in class for in-person learning if you are able to come to school. We are seeing great success from students who are back as they are able to get the individual assistance they need from teachers. If you are back on campus for in-person learning, you MUST attend your classes in-person and not sit in the hallways, locker rooms, or restrooms on zoom sessions or send messages about asynchronous learning. When on-campus for learning, students, you must be in your assigned classrooms. If students are continuing to be a virtual learner from home, it is as important as ever for students to login each day for classes and to complete assignments on time. Teachers continue to be available to assist during blended learning times that begin at 9am for morning sessions and 3:30pm for afternoon sessions.
The DATA Alliance has MANY announcements to share this week with several details included below. The DATA Alliance has launched their sales of Senior Yard Signs. Ordering details are listed below. DATA Alliance wants to honor our DATA teachers and is asking for your help
Thank you for your commitment to our faculty and staff. With your generous donations last fall we were able to recognize all DATA staff with a $10 H-E-B gift card for Thanksgiving and another $25 H-E-B gift card before the holiday break in December.
We all know that this year has been a challenge due to the pandemic. Would you help us recognize our wonderful faculty and staff for all the energy, focus, and effort they have put in to helping our children? We will be collecting gift cards of $5 or more dollars, from any business, from now until April 30th for Teacher Appreciation Week. We will have drawings every day, May 3rd-7th and would like each faculty and staff member to win! During 2020's Appreciation Week, we were able to collect enough donated gift cards to allow all the DATA Heroes to win two prizes each.
If you are in a position to help there are two ways to donate.
- You can simply click this link to make a donation through PayPal and we will purchase Gift Cards. https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=6T265N23YCMQE
- You can deliver Gift Cards of your choosing to either the front desk at TR in an envelope marked for DATA Alliance or have your student deliver directly to Ms. Tiller in the DATA office.
Thank you for your support!
Please reach out to dataallianceneisd@gmail.com if you have any questions about this recognition.

Scholarship Opportunity for Juniors
High school juniors can now get started on 6 key college planning steps and earn money along the way to support their big future - On March 31, the College Board awarded $1 million to the second cohort of recipients of its Complete Your Journey Opportunity Scholarship. Twenty-five students in the class of 2021 from across the country each earned a $40,000 scholarship toward their education by completing all steps in the College Board Opportunity Scholarships program—steps that help them plan, prepare, and pay for college.
The @CollegeBoard surprised 25 high school seniors with $40,000 scholarships on @GMA! The students completed all college planning steps in the #BigFuture program to qualify for the Complete Your Journey Opportunity Scholarship. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/living/story/kids-surprised-college-scholarships-apply-76770877 https://twitter.com/GMA/status/1377240793455415301
After a year of school closures and remote learning for millions, the announcement of a $40,000 scholarship comes as welcome news to students and families. This year’s high school seniors were forced to plan for college during a time of uncertainty, when many faced new financial hardships, lacked in-person access to a guidance counselor, and were unable to visit college campuses.
“This scholarship is for every student, no matter their background or what school they attend. It’s about giving all students a chance to raise their hands and be seen,” said College Board CEO David Coleman. “These 25 students are as diverse and strong as the country we call home; they come from small towns, cities, and everywhere in between. What unites them is that they have overcome adversity and taken a series of small steps to earn themselves a big future.”
For information to help class of 2022 students sign up to begin earning scholarships now, click here.
Background
College Board’s BigFuture initiative is designed to encourage every student—no matter their high school—to take small steps to advance themselves, get into college, and receive financial aid. These scholarships are part of BigFuture and give all students a path to follow and a chance to be seen, including those who might not have been sure they were going to college.
Class of 2022 students who complete the 6 college planning steps listed below earn 6 separate chances at $500. Research shows that although these are critical steps students need to take to make it to college, many students don’t take them, limiting their college prospects. This is especially true for low-income and first-generation students. When students finish all 6 steps, they’ll be entered into the drawing for a $40,000 scholarship.
1. Build Your College List: Students get started by exploring colleges they’re interested in.
2. Practice for the SAT: Students use Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy® to get ready for test day.
3. Explore Scholarships: Students find scholarships and other aid to help pay for college.
4. Strengthen Your College List: Students make sure their list has a mix of reach, match, and safety schools.
5. Complete the FAFSA: Students complete the free government form to apply for financial aid.
6. Apply to Colleges: Students apply to 2 or more colleges they want to attend.
More than 1 million students from all 50 states have joined the College Board Opportunity Scholarships program since it launched in December 2018. Students have won more than $10 million in scholarships. In addition to the 25 $40,000 Complete Your Journey winners from the class of 2021, nearly 4,000 students from 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands earned $3.6 million in smaller scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000.
College Board has dedicated $25 million over 5 years to the program that lays out 6 simple steps all students can take to get to college. Class of 2022 students who opt in now and get started by building their college list on BigFuture by June 30 will be eligible for the next $40,000 Complete Your Journey scholarship.
