Hembree Highlights

Letter from Ms. Smith
Hello Parents and Families!
Another week down and things are looking great around the school. Students are working and learning every day. I see manipulatives, letter tiles, and so much more hands on learning in all grade levels. Our students are settling into routines, and we are exemplifying what it means to be a hawk!
I am sending the Highlights early this week because I wanted to remind you to join us this evening at 5:30 on the playground TODAY. This is our back to school social. Bring your own family picnic. We will get to enjoy time together on the playground as we bring in this new school year. We will have only one entry point at the playground gate. If you want to bring chairs, blankets, or other items to play with on the playground, you are more than welcome. This will be a fun event, and I cannot wait to see you there!
Lastly, I wanted to remind parents that we will be having a REMOTE LEARNING day on September 6, 2022. This means that your child(ren) will not be in the school building that day for learning. We are not using devices for this day of learning. All students will be working on assignments that are in paper form. We will have more details next week, but I wanted you to go ahead and mark your calendars.
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Don’t forget one of the best ways to encourage a love of reading is to read with your child daily. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this- you can read to your child, read together by taking turns (every other page or chapter) or each reading a text independently and then making time to discuss it. Commit to reading with your child for at least 15 minutes per night and make it something you’ll both enjoy! Remember our media center, classroom libraries and online resources have a variety of genres to choose from. There’s something for everyone! Additional tips linked below Reading Tip Sheets for Parents | Colorín Colorado (colorincolorado.org). We also have a Title I Resource Center. Please contact, Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison gilbertl2@fultonschools.org for access to reading resources and more!
