Principal's Thoughts

Dear Page Hilltop Families:

The 10th Annual Dance for Kindness is only 3 weeks away! Registrations are coming in every day. We hope that you will join us (students and parents) for this special event which celebrates KINDNESS, COMMUNITY & INCLUSIVITY!

WXLO Morning Show host Jen Carter will be joining us as a co-emcee and will also have some special prize giveaways from XLO.

Dance Rehearsals: As we have previously mentioned, this is not a dance competition. We are all going to take to the street and share some fun dance moves with lots of KINDNESS themes.

If you would like to participate in some pre-event rehearsals, you are in luck. We will be offering them on the following dates (free of charge) at the Page Hilltop cultural arts room from 3:15 - 4:30.

October 24, 25, 31 & November 1, 7, 8.

Our instructors are former PH students who are now high school students and are long-time dancers: Ana Sanchez & Abigail Turner

Thanks, as always, for sharing your children with us!

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. Oppenheim and Mrs. Burke's Class: Teams were trying to create a bridge strong enough to hold a half cup of pennies.

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. McKillop's Class: Below are photos of a wonderful writer's workshop!! Look at these incredible opinion journalists!

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. Denaro's Class: Students playing a CVC game and strrrrrrrrrrrretching the sounds with small Halloween slinkies! It was fun to see an innovative and kinesthetic way of blending sounds into words.

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. Colello's Class: Students in Mrs. Colello's class participate in ELA center rotations. Students were obviously having a lot of fun thanks to the engaging activities created by Mrs. Colello.

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. Scott's Class: We went for a fall walk to collect leaves. Then we came in to sort them by color and then finally examined the leaves with magnifying glasses!

We opened up two pumpkins! First, we made a prediction as to which pumpkin would have more seeds. Then we all had turns scooping the seeds out. The final step was to count out the seeds using ten frames to figure out which one had more.

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Mrs. Holmes' 3rd-grade students were working together to solve multi-step problems using our read-draw-write process from Eureka math. They worked together to solve their word problems and then shared how they solved their problems with the class.

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Enjoying some fun reading time with Mrs. D'Ambrosio's first graders as I had the opportunity to read one of my favorite stories: "The Three Little Pigs". The first graders have been reading multiple versions of various fairy tales as they prepare for "Literacy Live Day".

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE:

Mrs. Furman's Class: Here are some pictures of our fall walk while collecting leaves to sort, count, and graph when we came inside.

PRESCHOOL BAKERS

Some of our preschool students, under the guidance of Ms. Meikle, learned how to make applesauce and shared some with the office staff. It was so delicious!

GRADE 3 DICTIONARY PROJECT

One of our favorite school days for third graders comes in October each year. This is when our friends from the Rotary Club come and present each student with their very own dictionary. The students are always excited to receive their dictionary and begin turning all the pages as these dictionaries contain so much interesting information (beyond just words and their meanings).

Grade 3 paraprofessional, Anne Reeves coordinates this event each year and personally scribes each student's name in their dictionaries.

As a thank, you to the Rotarians, art teacher Heidi Cowley worked with the third graders to create a giant thank you card, which was presented to Rotarian John Gervais of Gervais Ford.

FAMILY PARTNERSHIP

These parents and children are enjoying time together in our Family Partnership room. For more information and a list of upcoming activities for parents with toddlers, please contact director Deanna Christie at: dchristie@asrsd.org

BEAUTIFUL BALLOON SCULPTURE

Mrs. Lorena Batres, the mother of Keyden, created this beautiful balloon tree which is now on display in our library for all to view and enjoy. Thank you, Mrs. Batres!
