The Cloud Connection

Math: We're continuing to work with fractions. This week we'll continue finding equivalent fractions and we'll learn how to change mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa. We'll have a quiz on Thur. covering these topics. Please practice multiplication and division facts with your child at home if they don't know them automatically. Homework this week is: Mon. pg. 547-548 and Tues. 549-552.
Reading: We're tying our study of the state with literature from around Alaska. Students were finishing up Toughboy and Sister on Friday. Students will be reading either Two Old Women or Diamond Willow. Many of our books have a survival element to them so we'll focus on survival skills as we continue to explore Alaska through our reading.
Language: This week we'll practice our opinion writing skills as we write a piece on chewing gum. We should be taking the district quarterly writing assessment the end of the week.
We'll have a spelling test on Friday. The words are: injure, pasture, fracture, culture, structure, feature, furniture, literature, temperature, moisture, gesture, pressure, departure, signature, sculpture, adventure, pleasure, measure, mixture, and nature.
Social Studies: We're reading about the Interior Region of Alaska this week so students have some idea of what that part of our state is like.
Science: This week we'll be learning about earthquakes and volcanoes and how they are connected to Earth's systems.
Other items: Remember that Wednesday is an Early Release Day!
Please continue to collect box tops for us. PTO is having a drive this month and the class with the most points earns school supplies which we would love to have!
Students should be reading for their weekly reading logs.
We're going swimming Wed. morning as a reward for great behavior. I'll pay for the swim rental. We have changed our behavior modification system so there's no longer the clip up, clip down chart. This doesn't mean that I won't be contacting you to let you know how your child is doing, but we need to do something to support the buy in of a productive learning environment by the entire class.
