United Way Youth Venture
This year, a group of 6th graders participated in the United Way Youth Venture program. This is a social entrepreneurship program where students get to combine their skills and passions to make a positive impact in their community for a cause they are interested in. The Ballers felt that some of their local parks are not always safe or in the best condition so students have no where to go to play. The students conducted a survey asking students of Memorial what they like to play and if they would use a new basketball court. The results showed that 70% of students wanted a safe place to play and 93% of students wanted the current basketball court and hoops to be fixed. They are planning a staff vs student basketball game where teachers, students, and families can come together to play basketball or cheer on your friends and family while also raising money in order to buy and make a new half court with a basketball hoop so that the students of Memorial, and all of Fitchburg, will now have a place to safely play.
