Westy Academy Weekly Newsletter

Week of March 14th-18th 2022

A Message From the Principal...

Owls,

We are one week out from Spring Break! I am sure that many of us are ready for a bit of a rest from the normal day to day routines. This weekend also marks the start of Daylight Savings, which always helps to provide more sunlight and longer days while equally increasing positive moods! Make sure to turn your clocks ahead one hour on Sunday. As they say, "Spring Forward!"

Next week is busy, busy around the school! Our Kindergarteners will be showcasing a Farmer's Life Musical, which is sure to be entertaining for parents, Class Pictures are scheduled for Thursday (which is also St. Patty's Day), and on Friday we say 'Adios!' to our traveling 8th graders who are leaving for their International trip to Panama.

There's so much more going on, don't miss anything! Be sure to check out all the sections of the newsletter this week.

Sincerely,

Mr. Warwick

Results of Highly Reliable Schools (HRS) Survey!

Our survey data is in and looks very positive! 89% of parents responded favorably to the questions on our survey; 4 percentage points higher than the district average.

Our lowest response from parents was to the statement: “I understand how my opinions effect school decisions” in which 79% of parents responded positively.

Fittingly, our opinion surveys are probably the most large scale way in which your opinions effect our decision making! We look carefully at the data and read all the comments and make adjustments based on those data. Westy Academy also has other ways for you to have input as well! Make sure to read the section below on how to get involved with OUR school!

Get Involved in Your Student's School!

Our PTO meets monthly and also serves as our BAAC (Building Accountability and Commitment). This group is concerned with fundraisers, field trips, special events and is also a sounding board for our initiatives in the building. Additionally, the BAAC group is one of the bodies that reviews our budget proposals for the following school year.

PTO currently meets the 1st Tuesday of the month, at 5:15pm in the Library. Please join us!

We would like to add another opportunity for parents to discuss matters with administration that has been on hiatus since the pandemic.

Coffee with the Principal will be held on the first Friday of every month starting April 1 at 8:30-9:30AM. These meetings are informal and a chance to converse with the principal, ask questions or learn more about how the building runs. We’ll provide coffee and light refreshments; masks are optional! We hope to see you there!
