Woods Weekly
Week of November 16th-20th
Classroom Happenings
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please continue to check your child's planner every day. Your child is expected to write down the daily assignments. At the end of the day, I check each student's planner. If your child did not turn in an assignment that day, a note will have been written at the bottom.
Wednesday, November 18th is our PTA restaurant fundraiser at Chipotle from 5 PM-9 PM. 50% of the proceeds will be donated to our PTA. A flyer is coming home today. I hope to see you there!
Science
Social Studies
We will resume social studies at the beginning of December.
Math
This week we will begin tackling fractions. We will discuss halves, fractions of a foot, and fractions using egg cartons. Students will take a pre-test, which will allow me to see what they already know about fractions and division.
Reading
We are continuing our novel study of Fish in a Tree. This week, we will be reading and discussing chapters 19-30. We will be working on making:
- inferences
- comparisons
- summaries
- connections
Writing
We are beginning a unit on verbs. This week we will cover:
- action verbs
- verb tenses
- subject-verb agreement
Spelling: Ambiguous Vowels au, aw, al
Students will be tested over all 10 Core Words. Then, I will choose 10 of the Test Words to give them on Friday. For the last word, students have to write the sentence that I say using the spelling word. I take a writing score for their sentence based on spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
***It is very important that students spend some time each night practicing their spelling words.***
