CB West High School
Updates From Mr. Bucher
Last Edition For 2013-2014
This will be our FINAL On-line CB West Newsletter for the 2013-2014 school year. However, they will be back over the summer months as we gear up for another exciting school year. See you in 2014-2015!
Autism Awareness Month
April was Autism Awareness month. To show our unity as a school in raising awareness for Autism, the social skills class raised $345.00 to support the Bucks County Autistic Support Coalition. The coalition is a volunteer organization that raises awareness of Autism and encourages acceptance of individuals on the Autism Spectrum among many other things. As a school, staff and students shared personal experiences, knowledge of the spectrum and examples of how we can raise awareness and help people with Autism. This is just another fantastic example of how the students and faculty at CB West care and support our community!
A Successful CB West Event!
Broadway Performers come to Doylestown in "Broadway Unmasked" Event
The Central Bucks West High School Harlequin Club invites you to join us as we proudly present the vocal stylings of Ciaràn Sheehan and Gwen Eagleton, accompanied by pianist Sue Anderson, in “Broadway Unmasked.”
“Broadway Unmasked” is an evening of Broadway and Irish music featuring international singer Ciarán Sheehan. Sheehan performs all over the world but is most widely known for playing the role of the Phantom in “The Phantom of The Opera” for over 1,000 performances on Broadway and in Toronto. Sheehan will be joined by singer Gwen Eagleton, from the “Phantom of the Opera” national tour.
Sheehan’s other Broadway roles include Babet and Marius in “Les Miserables.” He has given four sold out performances at Carnegie Hall, as well as at The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland. He performed the American National Anthem at New York State Governor George Pataki’s inauguration, and was a soloist at the internationally televised memorial mass for John and Carolyn Kennedy Jr.
Sheehan and Eagleton will be accompanied by pianist Sue Anderson and joined briefly by student performers from CB West. Anderson was the first woman to conduct a Broadway show “Pirates of Penzance.” She also conducted “Cats” and “Me and My Girl” on Broadway, performed in “Jerry’s Girls” and has worked with other actors like Rex Harrison and Peter O’Toole.
The event is a benefit for the drama club, the Harlequin Club, of Central Bucks West High School, which has a long history of providing artistic opportunities for students. This year alone three students will be continuing onto college to study the performing arts: senior Jacob Snively at Temple University, senior Cayce Kolodney at Pace University and senior Colleen Smith at The University of the Arts.
Smith is the current president of the Harlequin Club. It was Smith who met Sheehan at an acting retreat last summer in upstate New York, and convinced the singer to come to her school to perform.
“I had to ask him,” Smith said. “How often does one meet the Phantom of the Opera in person? But he is so nice and down-to-earth. I was so excited when he said yes!”
The performance begins at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 23rd. CB West High School is located at 375 West Court St. in Doylestown, PA.
Seats are general admission, and doors open 1/2 hour before curtain. Tickets are $30, or $10 for Central Bucks residents, students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door or through this link:

CB West's Sea Perch Team
On April 27th, CB West’s Sea Perch team competed at Drexel University. The event is sponsored by the Navy as they are looking to inspire a new generation of engineers that are grown here in this country.
Mira Bhut, Zach Van Rijn, David Samson, Sammi Constantine, David Samson, Steph Mitchell, Hayden Hotham and Kelly Glover were our 2014 Sea Perch members. Students built the practice cage and the hoops for practice at the YMCA. Special thanks goes to the YMCA for allowing us to practice every Thursday.
CB West finished 5th in the Pool Performance out of 27 teams.
End of the Year Student Technology Reminders
Access to network and computing services for graduating Seniors will be removed on July 7, 2014. This includes the removal of Office 365/OneDrive accounts. Graduating Seniors should make plans to back up any important files they have stored in their I: Drive or OneDrive accounts, prior to July 7, 2014.
Students who are remaining in the Central Bucks School District next year will be able to maintain files in their Office 365 accounts (grades 6-11). These Office 365 accounts will not be deleted. It is still recommended that students back up any important files to an additional location.
Please note that as in years past, any files stored in student (grades K-12) I: Drives will be deleted on July 7, 2014.
Students who are remaining in CBSD will also maintain the same network username and password for next school year. This is a change from years past.

Student Planners
We want to give you advanced notice that student planners will not be available at CB West in the 2014-2015 school year. With the implementation of Office 365 and the Bring- Your-Own-Device Initiative, we are finding that more and more students are using the latter options to record important information.
However, if your child is in need of a calendar to record information, we would recommend that you visit the dollar stores and other office supply stores in the local community. Last year, student planners were available at many stores at a resonable cost.
