Message From The Principal
I hope you and your loved ones continue to stay safe and well. You may have noticed more staff members on campus the past few days. Although we continue to be closed to the public based on KISD campus guidelines, our staff and teachers are working hard to set up their classrooms and work space for our first day of virtual learning on August 19, 2020.
Because all KISD campuses continue to be closed to the public, I want you to know our office is open for phone calls from 8a.m-4p.m Monday-Friday. Our campus receptionist is more than happy to direct your phone call to the appropriate person.
I will continue to send you the most updated information from our campus so that you and your students are ready for this school year. Katy ISD will continue to review the ever-changing guidance from local and state authorities.
At this time, we are moving forward with the plan to begin school on August 19 with all students participating in virtual learning with the goal to reopen for the in-person instructional option on September 8, 2020.
Best Regards,
Dr. Ann Lalime
Principal
Katy Virtual Academy (KVA) Commitment
Please note that the Opt-Out date for KVA is Friday, August 7 (not Sept 7).
August 3, 2020 (date posted on the katyisd.org website)
Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians,
The deadline is quickly approaching for families who wish to select the Katy Virtual Academy (KVA), virtual instruction, for the first grading period of the 2020-2021 school year. Students who elect the virtual instruction option through KVA must submit a KVA commitment form by August 5. Students have until Friday, August 7 to opt out of their KVA virtual learning option for the first grading period.
Parents who wish to have their student(s) return for in-person instruction on September 8 do not need to complete a commitment form or notify their child’s campus. These students will participate in Intermittent School to Home Virtual Instruction, August 19-September 4.
Even though all Katy ISD students will participate in virtual learning from August 19 to September 4, it’s important for families who wish to have their student(s) participate in KVA, when campuses reopen, to complete a KVA commitment form. This will ensure that students have the same teacher on September 8, regardless of whether KVA or in-person instruction is elected. This will also help us to plan student schedules and teacher staffing for the in-person and virtual instruction options.
While the goal is to resume plans to reopen campuses on September 8, please keep in mind that any plans are subject to change given the course of this pandemic and guidance issued by the state or counties.
For more information on in-person or virtual instruction, visit the Smart Restart webpage.

It is recommended that KVA enrolled students have a dedicated technology device and broadband internet access. Please indicate on the KVA commitment form via PowerSchool if your child is in need of a device and/or internet access.

Start Of Schools Events
Our teachers are getting super excited about connecting with their new students. Both KVA and Face to Face virtual students will be able to virtually meet their teachers starting on August 19, 2020. We will have lessons planned to get to know the students and build relationships virtually.
Next week’s Sabercat News will have information on our student "grab and go" event that will be scheduled for Aug. 17 and 18, 2020. This will be when students will pick up technology that has been requested along with other items needed.
All students (KVA and face to face) will need to come and grab their bag so that they are ready to start classes on August 19th.
Details and times will be provided in next week’s Sabercat News.
Annual Student Update via PowerSchool
During the week of August 3, parents and guardians who have an email address on file with the District will receive a unique SnapCode for each of their enrolled students. Once you have a SnapCode, visit the Katy ISD online registration page and select the “Annual Student Update” link that will be live beginning Monday, August 3. The SnapCode allows parents and guardians to securely update their student’s information for the upcoming school year.
Parents and guardians who have not provided an email address will receive their SnapCode by US postal mail. If your SnapCode is not received by August 7 or you are having issues with PowerSchool, please contact your student’s campus or submit a Help Desk ticket and a Technology staff member will contact you within 24 business hours.
