The Curriculum Corner: Get Them Reading!
Written by Karen DeFrank
Good teachers are always trying to figure out what is best for their students, especially when a student is having difficulties. Sometimes this can be very frustrating, since problems might not be obvious. Is it physical? Neurological? Emotional? Is there some confusion, or is it neglect or abuse? Some days it seems like we might need multiple degrees in psychology and social work to reach that one child who doesn’t understand our lessons.
This article addresses some problems that students who don’t like to read may be experiencing. Perhaps there are one or two points that you haven’t thought of.
I love point Number 9. Students need choices! Give kids a chance to use your classroom library, or the school library, to find something that catches their interest. You must might change a non-reader into a Super Reader! Click on the link below to read more!

News & Notes
- Please adhere to the new lunch ticket routines as this board policy is designed to decrease delinquent account balances. Students with a balance must be given a yellow ticket.
- EOY Updates: Please remember to prepare letters for your fall packets; Joan will be collecting. Also, keys & walkie-talkies will be collected as in years past.
- Garden Updates: Envelopes have been placed in your boxes to collect garden fundraiser forms & money. Checks are accepted, and can be made out to Bullock Children’s Garden (oops…left that off the form. Ugh!) On June 5th, please put them in Missy’s mailbox.
