AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
A few days ago I read this blog post from George Couros. After watching the video [posted below] and reading what George had to say it left me thinking...
But before I get to that... take a couple of minutes and watch the video below.
Go ahead, I will wait. Just remember to come back.
Now that you are back I thought that I would bring this a little closer to home. I know that College Station is not the test market for Amazon Go and I know that it could be a good while before we have a store like this in College Station, but it could happen sooner than you think.
Check out the next couple of images of retailers we have right here in College Station. Pay attention to the Sam's Club Images.
In Sam's Club you have to scan your own items but you do not have to see a cashier and you can just show the e-receipt on your way out of the door.
You can do this TODAY in College Station. It is not a far stretch from what Amazon Go is doing.
As Couros has stated in his blog, change is inevitable. The question that is being asked is: are schools keeping up with the changes? Are we equipping our students with the skills they need to live in an ever changing and evolving world?
It begins with you. It begins with me. It takes all of us.
Amazon decided to take a risk and create a store that does not rely upon the traditional model. They took a concept that we are all comfortable with and familiar with and dared to make it different because they wanted to benefit their customer... their consumer. The traditional system of buying groceries works except for the checkout process. The checkout process is what slows everything down. They were willing to change that part of the model to make a completely different experience.
That is innovation. Looking at something and asking what can I do to make this better... and then actually doing that. Taking that risk.
Are you willing to look at something that you are very comfortable and familiar with and make a change to benefit your students...your customers? Your favorite lesson just may be the student's least favorite lesson. Are you willing to change so that your students want to come to be a part of that lesson? It begins with asking them what they like and didn't like and then making the change.
Take the risk. You just might surprise yourself at how the energy in the classroom will change.
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff

AMCMS Tech Tip of the Week
Google Drive: P is for Preview
Looking through your drive and not sure if the file you are looking at is the one you want to open? Use Google Preview.
When you are using Google Drive click on file and press the letter P. This will open a preview of the file.
Find out more here.
Academic Tip of the Week
Are you seeing that students are not always hitting the mark on classroom quizzes? Maybe you just need a little support with ensuring students are learning the material.
Try This:
Provide parents with information on test or quiz content (e.g., which material will be covered by the test or quiz, format, types of questions, etc.).
How can you do this? Use your school website to show what materials have been covered and what students will need to know for coming assessments. Then, communicate to the parents the location of those resources and ask them for help in making sure students are prepared for class. You can communicate with parent emails or newsletters with links to the resources.
SPED Tip of the Week
If you have questions about what something in the paperwork means, please contact a special education teacher or counselor (for 504).
We are all legally responsible for implementing the students' modifications and accommodations with fidelity, so please take a few moments to make sure you have everything you need!
