SCHOOLWIDE NEWS
Back to School Night is FRIDAY @ 6-8 PM!
All Met families and students are invited to our annual Back to School Night on Sept. 8! This year, in addition to the chance to visit classrooms and meet your child’s teachers, we have planned a community gathering that will include stations you can visit to get important information about various Met programs, a pizza fundraiser, an opportunity to order your Yearbook early, raffle prizes, our Title I info session, and more! Join us and get an inside look at how the Met is supporting your students and creating a culture of engagement and academic success!
Parking for Back To School Night
We recommend parking in Parking Lot 1, the large lot with the solar panels closest to the I-400 Student Services building. See this Mesa College Map for guidance. Please print out this Parking Pass and display it on your dashboard so you can park for free. We will also have copies available when you check in that you can bring back down to your vehicle to display.
LCFF Form: Support our State Funding!
One of the most important ways you can support your child's education at the Met is by filling out the LCFF Form that will be arriving in your email! By completing the LCFF Form, you help determine how much state funding our school receives for instructional programs, services, and materials. Your participation directly impacts the Met's ability to best serve every student, including your own.
The district is sending out a Survey Monkey this week to all parents/guardians. The form has only two questions and takes just minutes to complete. Please complete the form as soon as you can, and reach out to us if you need any assistance. Thank you so much for your support!
Recruiting for SSC and SGT
We are currently recruiting for parents/guardians and students to be on two of our important committees: the School Site Council (SSC) and the Site Governance Team (SGT). Here is a description of each, including the expected time commitment:
The SSC is the body of school staff and community members whose primary role is to review and approve our annual School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and the related budgetary allotments that support the SPSA goals, in particular, our Title I and LCFF funding. The SSC meets roughly every six weeks (seven times a year).
The SGT supports shared decision-making among all educational partners (staff, parents, students), primarily in relation to improving our school’s instructional program. In particular, SGT has a crucial advisory role on our school’s safety plan. We expect that our SGT will meet quarterly, though it can meet more or less often based on need.
We expect to schedule our SSC meetings at 7:30am on Fridays, and SGT meetings at 8:00am on Fridays, to ensure that the meetings happen before school starts, as well as allow for easier parking for our parents, as there are few Mesa College classes on Fridays. However, the scheduling can change based on the decision of the membership of each committee.
Selection to both committees is by democratic election by the respective constituency group. If you are interested in either (or both) committees, please email Principal Fung at rfung@sandi.net directly. If you have previously emailed Mr. Fung regarding your interest already, you do not need to email again. The deadline for accepting nominations is Friday, September 8. All nominees will be added to a ballot, and that ballot will be sent out via this family newsletter to gather votes. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Fung.

SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL
School Tours
Join our Foundation!
This is a great time for interested parents to join our SD Met Foundation board! We are recruiting for parents and family members who would like to participate in activities related to fundraising for our school, developing our parent community, and supporting various ways to improve the learning environment for every student. If you are interested in learning more about our Foundation or would like details about joining the board for the 2023-2024 school year, please reach out to our Foundation President, Justin Schiffer (jschiffer@sandi.net) or Principal Robert Fung (rfung@sandi.net). Even if you are not able to join our board, you can always support our school by making a donation to the Foundation at this link. Our Foundation raises money to support our students, with all proceeds going directly to supporting supplies and resources for teaching and learning. Please share this link with your friends and network! Thank you!
REMINDERS
Attendance Reminder
Make sure to report student absences, early dismissal or tardies by contacting Ms. Suzana Valis by emailing svalis@sandi.net or calling (619) 388-2529.
When students are granted early dismissal from the school’s instructional time, a dismissal pass (blue slip) will be prepared for them. The blue slip will be taped to the clipboard where they sign-out (located just outside of the office).
Please remember to take the school’s schedule into account when making appointments so as to avoid interrupting instructional time.
PowerSchool Parent Portal
All parents are highly encouraged to get access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal (sign in here), where you can look up your student’s grades, attendance, and other information.
