2016-2017 State Testing

Dear BCIS Staff,

Testing season is fast approaching! Again this year, the students will be taking the AIR (American Institute of Research) test entirely ONLINE. Below you will find links, tips and tricks that will help you to prepare your students for the technology portion of the test. I have basically sectioned off the ODE website by subject area. I have also put together training sessions for you and your students, in the lab, to help better prepare the students for the technology portion of the testing. You should have already received an email with your scheduled time. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to stop by the lab or send me an email!

I will glad to help!!

Happy Testing Everyone!!!

Writing Timing for Spring 2017

NEW: Note the excerpt from the bottom of the timing document.

*These English Language Arts tests (grades 6-8, ELA I and ELA II) will have two writing prompts as described in the Ohio Blueprint. Students need adequate time to organize and support their responses with facts from the reading passages. The testing time noted above for these ELA tests are divided into two sessions of 1 hour and 45 minutes each. Students needing additional time to complete the test may be allowed, at each district’s discretion, 30 additional minutes (15 minutes per session for a total of two hours per session). Not all students will need this additional time and, in some sessions, no students will need this time. Schools also should provide students with disabilities additional time as needed, according to their individualized education programs. 10/25/16

Paginated Stimuli and Reading Mode

A new feature is available for use on reading passages on English Language Arts tests. This feature allows a student to read a passage by "flipping" pages, similar to a real book or e-reader. This eliminates the need for vertical scrolling.

This feature can be viewed on the English Language Arts tests on the Practice Test Site now. This feature will be off by default and can be turned on via the Choose Settings page when logging into the Practice Test Site. This feature will also be made available for social studies tests at a later date.

For the operational Grade 3 English language arts test, this feature will be off by default. This feature can be turned on in the Test Administrator Interface when approving students to test.

The attached quick reference document includes information about how to use the new feature and how to turn it on in the Test Administrator Interface.
