Abrams Parent News
April 9, 2021
Dear Abrams Families:
Happy April! April is the Month of the Military Child! In honor of our students, who are all military children, our spirit week this month will culminate with our district, “Purple Up” day on Friday! The themes for this spirit week are included in this newsletter.
You may have heard that there are updates to state testing regulations and guidelines for this year. State testing, (CMAS) will still occur, but the results will not be used for school accreditation. Instead, they will give us some information as to where our students are performing and will guide possible needs. We want our kids to show us what they know, but we want to be sure that there is not a lot of pressure on them during the assessments. Our third and fifth grade students will take the CMAS math assessment and our fourth graders will take the CMAS literacy assessment. Students will test the week of May 4th. The schedule is included in this newsletter. We ask that parents try to avoid scheduled appointments during this week if at all possible.
We are hosting a Conversation with the Principals on Thursday of next week. The agenda is included below. Due to forecast cold weather, we will need to meet remotely. The zoom link is included in this newsletter as well.

We are working hard to finish this school year strong and to plan for the next school year. We are continuing to follow the same health and safety protocols that we have had in place the entire school year. We do not anticipate any changes to these guidelines. We do not know what guidelines will be in place when school starts, but please be assured that we will do all that we can in order to keep our students, our staff, and our community safe.
If you have not yet returned your intent to return to your child’s teacher, please send that back as soon as possible. If your child attends Abrams on an Out of District (OOD) or Out of Zone (OOZ) waiver, you must apply for that waiver for next year as well. OOD and OOZ approvals are based on attendance and behavior. These requests can be found on the district website.
We feel so fortunate that we have been able to have our students at school for this school year! Your continued vigilance, keeping students home when ill and communicating with our nurse, has allowed us to remain in face to face conversation with our students. We appreciate all of your help and assistance!
Sincerely,
Lois Skaggs, Principal

Student Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
We ask that all parents on school grounds wear face coverings that cover both their nose and mouth at all times.
Arrival:
We are asking that if at all possible, families consider accessing Abrams from the back of the school, either using O’Connell from the south side of Abrams or Hare Ave from the north side of Abrams.
When coming through the carpool line, please do NOT drop students off in front of the kindergarten playground. Please pull all the way forward and drop students off in front of the school. This helps us to keep the carpool line moving and get cars off of the surrounding streets.
If you need to get out of the car to assist your child, please park in the lot behind the school off of Wetzel Avenue and walk with your child to their building access door. Please do not get out of your vehicle in front of the school as it holds up the line.
Please do not allow students to exit your vehicle at the bus loading zones at the rear of the school. All students being dropped off by car must be dropped off at the front of the school for safety.
Dismissal:
Parents picking up students at dismissal time should park in the lot at the rear of the school and proceed to either the kindergarten blacktop (Kindergarten students only) or the basketball court. Students must present their dismissal card to the teachers on duty before leaving for the day.
Abrams Kindergarten Readiness Newsletter
This is a friendly reminder to please keep your child/children home when a family member is being tested and or waiting on COVID results. If a family member has tested positive, please notify our school nurse immediately.
