6th Grade Social Studies (Mr. Stanifer)

In December Students will be working on their passport projects for Europe in class. They will also be studying for their Europe countries Test (12/9). As always the Semester will end with Final exams on the last three days of school.

6th Grade Math (Mr. Appleton)

Things look good as we are in the waning days of first semester. It is time to start thinking about the final exam. It will cover everything we have covered so far this year. Expect a study guide to come home on or before Dec. 9th. Going back to revisit the IXL work for the year is a great way to review. Do not wait until the night before the exam to start the review process. We will do some review in class, but the lion’s share of the review is the student’s responsibility.

We wish for you the most jubilant time decorating the conical shape in your home with spheres, triangles, rays of light, and other math items. We also hope the bedecked rectangular prisms under the festive conifer contain exactly what you need.

Santa loves those cookies. An elf told us that your child may need more practice with fractions. Challenge yourself with making 1 ⅔ batches of cookies. Make sure the embellishments upon them are symmetrical.

Have a safe and blessed holiday and we look forward to the rigor that 2023 will bring to our classroom.

7th and 8th Grade Math (Mrs. Emenhiser)

Greetings from Room 601

Math with Mrs. Emenhiser

My 7th graders have completed their equations and inequalities unit! They have moved on to Constant of Proportionality, Rate of change which both are better known as Unit Rate. Understanding unit rate is a great life skill. Gas prices are a huge example. Which is the better buy!! Especially this time of year. Is my Costco or Sam’s Club membership worth the price? Are items really cheaper when you buy them in bulk? Also, can we use this information to find the price of a larger or smaller quantity.

My 8th graders along with Mr. Davis’s classes played a game of spoons with a math twist the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. I was very proud of our students and how far they have grown in their ability to solve complex problems. The task was to solve a multi-step equation with variables on both sides of the equal sign, then run and find your solution on one of two boards before the other teams to do the same thing. There was one less solution than the number of teams, hence it was inspired by the card game “spoons”.

ALL students and parents - these last three weeks before break will go by quickly. Both grades will be finishing up their units and taking an assessment just on that topic. Then the last week of school will be finals week. Please see canvas for topics, review material, and the finals schedule itself.

I hope you all have a wonderful end of the year.

Much success, health and happiness to all!

Mrs. Emenhiser
