Art, Music, & Spanish - Fort Thomas Independent Schools
Make it Healthy, Making Music!
The first grade classes at Moyer (March 16) and Woodfill (April 13) performed a musical called Make It Healthy for the community. We learned all about eating good foods, getting plenty of rest and exercise. The first graders did an amazing job singing, dancing and acting.
At the end of April, the Kindergarten and First grade students were treated to a live performance from several musicians from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The duet performed songs and showed the students how the string instruments played music. Then students had an opportunity to ask the musicians questions.

Spanish Vocabulary Review
In the 5th grade, we have been working on reviewing all of the vocabulary that we have studied this year and putting lots of it to use in letters the students are writing to their peers across 5th grade. These pictures show students working in Mr. Winkler’s class at Moyer and part of an example letter from Tanner at Woodfill!

Be sure to visit my FLYNN 345 STUDIO BASE webpage-- it's the perfect way to learn about the art program. I've had a blast using it as a space to share art images and videos, and also as a way to document some of the incredible things happening in our art classrooms across the district. Use the site to find out what's happening in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade art, as well as find additional art inspiration and resources. Feel free to comment on posts! It's a great place we can share our ideas about the positive impact of visual art education for our students.

I led a group of 21 district students in Engineering Club this year at Moyer, centered around the theme of designing a dwelling. Visit the website for more pictures! We teamed with local architect John Noble to learn about the many environmental factors and engineering challenges which affect architectural design, and worked to develop plans for a dwelling that could be built on a proposed Fort Thomas site. The final product resulted in student-created architectural models, which are now on display in Moyer's library. Several just returned from being in an exhibition at the downtown branch of the Cincinnati Public Library. The students worked incredibly hard to plan and construct these ideas, and each student is to be congratulated! What an amazing experience!

inventors workshop studio
The year is winding down and all artwork is making it's way home. We are in need of refilling our inventor's workshop (aka sculpture studio). So, if you have a small collection of recycled items, buttons, fabric, embroidery thread, yarn or cardboard that you want to get rid of....please send them in. The more donations we receive, the more options the students have to create. I just love seeing their ideas come together!

Recorder Karate
In music class, third grade is working on “Recorder Karate.” In this program, students earn belts that are tied to their recorder when they pass a level. Each level has a tune that they must master before moving on. These tunes are on my webpage.
There are multiple ways third graders can earn their belt. Every other week is a test day where they can try for the belt in class. Students can also try to catch me in the mornings before school. One other way to earn a belt is to submit a video.

Me gusta Español = I like Spanish
In first grade, we are finishing the year with our likes and dislikes. We are learning "Me gusta __" and "No me gusta__." The students are having fun sharing their opinions! In the picture, students drew things that they like on the front and things that they do not like on the back and then shared with the class.
