elementary students, preschool through grade 5.
❖ A visit takes about 30 minutes, including time to select, review and read the book.
❖ Books may be provided by the school library, or readers may bring a favorite story to share.
❖ Sign up by October 19 to allow adequate scheduling time for participating schools.
❖ A confirmation verifying school, day, time and audience will be sent to you prior to the event.

JSA has BIG DREAMS for LITTLE IOWANS!
Most Johnson students and families have heard of the amazing Iowa Wave supporting the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City during Hawkeye football season, but did you know that there are many young Iowan’s, and their families, needing our help right here in Cedar Rapids too?
Johnson STEAM Academy is excited to “kick off” our 2018-2019 Fall Family Service Project supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois that serves both the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms of Iowa City AND St. Luke’s just a few blocks from JSA in Cedar Rapids.
Founded in 1985, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (RMHC-EIWI) creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. RMHC-EIWI provides care and comfort to children and their families by supporting the 31-room "home away from home" Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City. Additional programs include a Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and Ronald McDonald Food Pantries at University of Iowa Children's Hospital. RMHC-EIWI also supports not-for-profit children's programs and students making a difference in eastern Iowa and western Illinois through its grants and scholarships program.
JSA Classrooms will be “competing” by bringing in cash and coin donations
each school day: Thursday, October 4th – Thursday, October 18th, 2018.
Please send your student to class with donations to be collected after Community Circle. Donations will be collected in the Gallery.
Parents, you are invited to bring YOUR donations during Parent/Teacher Conferences October 16th and/or October 18th.
Students and parents who bring in donations will have a chance to send a social media “Wave” to the families being served by the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
*Please see attached flyer at the bottom

Happy October JSA families and PTA members!
Each semester, JSA families provide dinner for the teachers and staff at JSA during conferences to thank them for all the extra hours and hard work they give to make JSA the wonderful place that it is for our kiddos. This year the Fall Conference Meal will be on Thursday, October 18th and will have a Mexican Fiesta theme, so break out your favorite Mexican-themed recipes!
Please take a look at the Google Docs link below and sign up for any items you can bring. If possible, please try to have the prepared items dropped off around 4 PM on Thursday, October 18th. Items that do not require preparation can be dropped off any time that day. If you are unable to bring an item in, but would like to provide a cash donation to purchase the food, please provide your donation to Shawn Carlson in the JSA office by Monday October 15th or better yet, bring it with you and join our next PTA meeting!!
