Newsletter Week 4 Term 4

Sacred Heart School Petone Wednesday 10th November,2021

Dear Parents and friends

It's been lovely to see the sun this week! We are working on our plans for End of Year activities to comply with the current Alert levels. This may mean that some events will be limited to a certain number of parents. At this point we would expect to give priority to the parents of our Year 8 students at end of year events. Once we have worked out all the logistics we will let you know what is happening. We are however lucky to be at school and letting our children carry on with face to face learning. Things are very tough for families and schools in Auckland and Waikato and we need to keep them in our prayers at this time.

A separate newsletter with information regarding End of Year activities will be sent home next week.

Congratulations to Ria Sakaria, Lafaele Perez and family on the recent safe arrival of their new son and brother Te Kata. A new baby brother for Alehio.

School Production: Our school production will be held on Tuesday 7th December at the Little Theatre. Audiences will be limited to 150 at each performance and until November 22nd each family can purchase 2 tickets- one for each performance. (Evening show 7.00pm/Matinee Show 1.30pm). Tickets are on sale now and are $10.00 each. If anyone is able to help us with videoing the Production please let Penny Martell know.

Sports Term 4: A request for everyone to stick to the rules and comply with instructions from officials at both Touch and Netball. These rules are important to keep everyone safe.

School Uniform: All students should be wearing summer uniform and have a school sunhat. Thanks to everyone who has ensured their children are in correct summer uniform.

RISE Challenges: Completed RISE Challenges are due to me by Friday 26th November.

RE in Tui

Tui have been learning about Mary in their RE lessons at school. As part of this they have learnt about the special prayer that has been passed down 'The Hail Mary'. At school prayer this week nearly every Tui stood at the front and participated in sharing with the whole school. They were amazing and their prayers were beautiful.

Celebrating our school

Kererū class have been learning about Traditional Prayer-Karakia. Everyone had a go at writing our own blessings for each other.

May no one be mean to you. May you live for a long time. May God be with you all the way. May you have a good day.

Make friends. Be kind and help friends. God will be good to you.

May you walk in the stars. May you never be alone. May you find the light inside you. May you make lots of friends and live a happy life. May the moon guide you to your destiny.

Be kind and help others. Encourage each other. May God help you in everything you do. Help the poor and unworthy. Be great and strong.

Walk joy, my friend. Until we meet again, may God bless you. Walk strong and walk peace.

The Sacred Heart band ‘Out of the Blue’ performed at the Battle of the Bands in Week 2 this term. We were very proud of their assured performance, including a lovely guitar solo by Amelia. It was wonderful to hear the judge Shaan Singh particularly give a shout out to Tialemua for her fabulous lead vocals. Your performance was a credit to the school! A big thank you to Lili, Sandra, Nadia and Povey for taking us all the way to Paraparaumu for the big day.

School News

Parking at School

We share the street with another school, Britannia House and many residents and it can get very busy at drop off and pick up times. This is a gentle reminder to all of our parents and caregivers to not park over broken yellow lines or across driveways while dropping off or picking up your children.

Please show the RISE values we promote and ensure you are not endangering our tamariki and other road users or blocking residents from using their driverways.

Shoe Clinic Donation

This year we received $100 from the Shoe Clinic through the Shcool Rewards programme. Thank you to everyone who supported this programme and a huge thank you to the Shoe Clinic and Rob McNeill.

Loud Shirt Day

Thank you to our wonderful families for their gold coin donation on 29 October. We raised 240.10!

Drink Bottles

Please note that our drinking fountains are closed in Alert Level 2. Please ensure you send a named drink bottle to school each day for your child.

Term 4 - Sunscreen lotion

Please remember to apply sunscreen before school, particularly the junior classes as they have RISE UP outside in the mornings. There is sunscreen available in classrooms for afternoon re-applications. If your child requires a special sunscreen lotion during the summer terms due to skin reactions/allergies, please ensure this is sent to school and named.

Lunchonline - please check the lunchonline flyer below to see the lunch delivery dates or to set-up an account. Please note that Subway is no longer an option this term. Thank you for supporting Lunch Online - not only are you supporting our local businesses, but every lunch ordered gives our school a commission.

Chubby Baker - every Thursday

Sushi - every Friday

2021 Accounts Outstanding are due December 1st.

If you have any outstanding payments for 2021, we would like to ask that these are paid by 1st December 2021. Paper statements and email reminders were sent home last week.

News from the Board

Kia ora koutou

The Board met at the end of October - and with one meeting remaining for 2021 the end of the year is fast approaching.

We spent time working through the Enrolment scheme which we mentioned in the last newsletter. The purpose of the scheme is to help us manage the growing number of children on the school roll. The Board has sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Education, and the next step will be for them to consult with you all, our wider school community, on the proposed scheme before it's implemented.

We have also been notified by the Ministry that the planned school trustee elections for next year have been pushed out from May to September 2022, given the Covid situation particularly for schools up north. As we approach these elections, we would encourage anyone in our school community to consider whether they would be interested in being part of the school's Board. If you would like some more information on what this involves, please come and speak to any member of the Board, or Liz.

The Board would also like to thank Helen Kneebone, our Presiding Member, for all her work in leading the Board this year and supporting Liz and the team.
