UNDER THE SEA...

Ms. Ginni's Class

Sand! Waves! Fish! So much fun! Teaching young students about oceans can mean tons of excitement. We all have experienced a trip to the ocean and this week our teachers brought the ocean into our classroom by incorporating various ocean-themed activities. Join us as we dive into activities that will introduce us to the types of animals and creatures that make up the ocean habitat.

Feed Mr. Shark! Alphabet & Numbers Game

This week we had ocean themed fun every day!!

On Monday, we played a simple shark alphabet game that all the kids enjoyed. They even helped me adapt it to use it with numbers and letters.

We explored letters, colors and numbers. Every time we put a fish into the shark's mouth we would tell the color, letter or number.

SWEET WATER vs SALTY WATER

Ms. Ginni wanted us to understand that ocean water, unlike the water we drink, is salty. So we filled two containers with 4 cups of water. Then we dumped an entire shaker of salt into one of the containers.

Then Ms. Ginni made us taste both the fresh water and the salt water. We talked about how ocean water is salty but the water we drink everyday is not.

SORTING ANIMALS

We spent some time learning about where different animals live. We came to the conclusion that the animals could be found in the water or on the land. We sorted the animals in Ms. Ginni's basket according to where we thought we might find the animal. This presented the opportunity to examine the characteristics that allow each animal to fit into each category.
