Welcome to Heights!
Dear Families,
Welcome to Eastern Heights Middle School! We are thrilled to welcome all of our new and returning families to Heights. As we begin a new academic year, we want you to know that all Pioneers are truly valued here. We firmly believe in the potential of every learner, and it is our mission to support an inclusive and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.
At Eastern Heights, we understand that each student is unique with their own set of talents, interests, and aspirations. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff are committed to providing a well-rounded education that not only focuses on academic growth but also fosters personal development and character building.
We believe in the power of collaboration between home and school. We encourage open communication between parents, students, teachers, and administration. Together, we can maintain a strong support system that ensures the success of each student throughout their middle school journey. As parents or guardians, your involvement is crucial in your child's education. We welcome your active participation in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and our community events. Your support plays a vital role in creating a positive learning community for our Pioneers.
This newsletter contains LOTS of dates. Please take the time to look through, mark your calendars, and call us with any questions.
We are truly honored to be part of the Elyria community, and look forward to working closely with all parents and students throughout this academic year. Together let us make this year one filled with growth, discovery, and success.
Sincerely,
Jake Keefe and Dana Cerrito

Todd Church
EHMS Assistant Principal
Welcome, Mr. Church!
Eastern Heights Families,
My name is Mr. Todd Church and I am thrilled to be coming back to Eastern Heights this fall in the role of assistant principal. I have a long history in Elyria as it is my hometown, I am an Elyria High School alumni and have been working in the district since 2005 as a teacher. I have spent time at Eastern Heights, Elyria High School, and most recently at Westwood.
It is very apparent to me as I get started that there are so many great things happening at Eastern Heights so my goal is to offer support to Mrs. Cerrito, Mr. Keefe, and staff to help move us forward.
I look forward to meeting everyone soon!
Sincerely,
Todd Church

Cell Phones and Attire
Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.
The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.
The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.
Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.
Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day unless they are used as a part of a teacher-directed lesson in class. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.
