Principal's Message
Since August, our staff has been analyzing the key characteristics that make Shaull a great school, a previous US Department of Education Blue Ribbon Award recipient, and what we want Shaull to be into the future. We were able to summarize it into this vision statement for Shaull Elementary:
Working together to promote an environment where every child belongs and grows into a lifelong learner.
Simply put, as a staff and school community together with families and students, we commit to doing everything we can to provide a welcoming, inclusive school environment and a collaborative culture to work with you and your children to help them achieve their goals.

Over the next couple weeks we have several exciting events taking place. Be sure to review the flyers and important dates below so you are in the know!
If you haven't seen this on our school facebook page, take a moment to watch our 4th and 5th Grade Chorus singing our school theme song for this school year, "Fly Like an Eagle" by clicking the button below! Mrs. Schade, our music and chorus teacher, does an amazing job growing the students' voices over a semester into the masterpiece you see here!
Please do not hesitate to reach out with an email, seesaw message, or phone call if you should have any questions or concerns about school.
Have a great weekend!
Respectfully,
Mr. T.

Flexible Instruction Day Reminder
Here at Cumberland Valley, we may utilize up to five Flexible Instruction Days (FID) due to emergency situations such as inclement weather. FIDs may also be utilized for other emergency circumstances during which students receive learning activities and assignments at home in order to provide for continuity of instruction. Learning activities and assignments will continue the classroom experience and allow us to avoid make up days.
Elementary school attendance on a FID requires the student to be present for the live, synchronous Morning Meeting AND they must complete the asynchronous work assigned by the teacher. In the event a student is unable to attend the Morning Meeting, parents should contact the teacher via email or Seesaw with an explanation of the absence.
Virtual Morning Meeting: Unless communicated differently by your teacher, Morning Meetings begin for AM Kindergarten and all grade 1-5 students at 9:30 am. PM Kindergarten Morning Meeting begins at 9:50.
Grade 1-5 teachers will provide the following asynchronous activities for students on a FID day:
• One (1) ELA lesson
• One (1) math lesson
• One (1) science/social studies lesson
• One (1) Activity from each specials class (Please note there will not be an activity from Art as we are transitioning teachers)
Kindergarten teachers will run two short morning meetings, AM kindergarten at 9:30 and PM kindergarten at 9:50. Kindergarten students will have one (1) ELA and one (1) math lesson for the day.
All students are also encouraged to complete 20 minutes of Imagine Literacy, and 20 minutes of Imagine Math.
Teachers will be reaching out with specific directions for the day. Attendance: To be marked present student are required to attend the morning meeting on FID days and complete the asynchronous work. Students will be given two (2) school days to complete the missed assignments in order to receive credit for the work and the day.
In the event of a FID, we will be sure to communicate these procedures and any pertinent information from the classroom teacher. Additionally, students should be taking their school issued iPad or Chromebook home each day.

Eagle Spotlight!
Check out these amazing commendations!
Mrs. Hermance is an absolute joy to work with! We are so lucky to have her as part of our son’s support team. She goes above and beyond to communicate, collaborate, and offer support to both my son and our family. She is a shining example of an amazing teacher and person!
Ms. Varano excels at clear and consistent communication with families! We appreciate her organized and regular updates. She is dedicated to her students, taking an individual interest in each one and making sure each student is challenged at their level! She has also done a great job at breaking down complex math lessons and skills for students.

Cell Phones/Smart Devices Expectations for School
We have recently had several occurrences where students are texting their parents on smart watches to be picked up from school due to feeling ill or to be removed from other stressors of the school day. As a reminder, students are not permitted to have their cell phones on them during the instructional day or to be texting from other devices during the school day. Students may bring phones, but must have them secured in their backpacks/cubbies during the day. The school is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen cell phones.
More students are coming to school with smart watches. Students may wear their watches to school. However, students may not make/take calls and texts throughout the school day while in class. We have had several cases this year where students are texting their parent from their watch to come and pick them up from school. Any student who is not feeling well must follow school procedures, which includes going to see the school nurse if they are not feeling well. Only the school principal and school nurse may send students home. Please have a conversation with your child regarding the appropriate use of their smart watch if they wear one to school. We greatly appreciate your support with this as we wish to have students focused on their instruction during the school day.
