Social Media ~ Be Informed!
LCMS wants to advocate for proper awareness and education regarding a recent situation on YouTube and YouTube Kids. Our advice, as always, is to supervise the games your kids play and be extremely mindful of the videos they are watching on YouTube. The latest round of unsettling internet challenges has taken a dangerous turn, with multiple “kid-friendly” videos teaching children how to commit suicide or encouraging them to commit high-risk acts...this one called the Momo Challenge. ~ Please contact us if you have any questions or want to share a concern.
It is important that parents focus on internet safety and prevention. Please always monitor your students use of social media and the internet.
The internet can be dangerous despite warnings. Parents, please always be diligent and aware and help us teach your student to report anything that they find scary or uncomfortable to a trusted adult. Media use should be supervised and applied at each students developmental level.
Remember fear is what the enemy wants. For us to freak out as parents. We have to fight that fear. The best thing we can do is become stronger and smarter and teach our kids to do the same.
We as parents and educators can help our children by teaching them good practices online. It is important for us as parents to talk regularly with children about apps and games they play and the potential risks they can be exposed to.
This constantly evolving digital world means a steady influx of new apps and games that can and will be hacked.
