Social Emotional Learning Theme: Our Emotions

As we continue our Emotions theme in March, we will focus on learning to use strategies for Emotion Regulation. Through the book "My Magic Breath" by Nick Ortner, our Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students will explore the practice of deep breathing as a tool to calm and focus themselves for learning. Our Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students will build on their conversations about thoughts, feelings, and actions, through the book "Catching Thoughts" by Bonnie Clark. Our students will also review the tools in the toolboxes (image above) pertaining to each zone.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In March, we learn about Women's History Month. This month students will learn about leaders and role models, past and present.

Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is also celebrated this month. It signals the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The meaning of Nowruz can be broken into two words: now meaning "new" and ruz meaning "day." This year, it is celebrated on March 20 and 21.

We would like to thank our school's DEI Compact Team who continue to create the wonderful bulletin board/exhibit recognizing different cultures and leaders/pioneers.

Read alouds and morning meeting will continue to be opportunities for learning and discussion.

Tri-States Consortium

The Tri-States Consortium Team, a learning organization comprised of a group of public-school educators from local districts, will be visiting the Katonah-Lewisboro School District on March 1, 2, and 3. The purpose of the visit is to provide feedback about the District’s Learning Commitment: to create engaging, relevant, and active learning environments for our students. As part of the evaluation process, the Tri-States Team sends its members to the schools to meet with administrators, teachers, and students to ask for their feedback about our learning environments. We look forward to hosting the Tri-States visitors at IMES this week.
