Men of Distinction
Vol. 3, Ed. 12, 11.28.2018
Mr. Owens believes...
"As a nation, we are in need of educating EVERY child to their highest potential. We need to offer an avenue of hope and accomplishment to help children reach their goals. Mentorship has always been a part of my life and I hope that I will be able to leave a legacy of building up children so they won't become broken men. May our children leave us and go out into the world and make it a better place." ~ Mr. Melvin J. Owens
The 3 R's (Rapport, Relationship, and Respect)
The Men of Distinction had the pleasure of having Mr. T-Ronn Hicks to present to them The 3 R's meaning Rapport, Relationship, and Respect. Mr. Hicks stressed the importance of the MODs being able to understand people and work with them. He talked about self-respect and a person will only treat you as well as you treat yourself. The MODs had a good discussion on self talk and how they can continue to improve themselves and others around them.

Building Relationships!
November 2018 Lunch and
The Men of Distinction and their mentors had an awesome time in fellowship, enjoying a nice lunch, and collaborating over the message from Mr. Jim Waverka on the topic Compassion. Mr. Waverka defined what compassion means and gave the MODs the opportunity to reflect and communicate examples of compassion in their lives. Many of the students brought up the Kindness initiative that the district is participating in schools. They have enjoyed seeing others show compassion and kindness when they come to school and at sporting events. The MODs also talked about the Grateful Dads who show up rain, sleet, and snow to give a high five, a smile, and a piece of candy.
