Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!

Dear Vikan Community,

As you know, every year in the fall and spring we ask that you complete a survey to give us feedback on how we are doing as a school. This survey takes approximately five minutes. The results of this survey help us better understand how to best meet your child's needs.

HERE is the survey. Please take a minute to complete it and help us improve our practice. In addition, your support will help our teachers win a catered lunch in April. Trust me when I tell you that they deserve this and much more.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place from March 13 through March 17. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child's advisor either virtually or in person. Please see below for the structure of the meetings:

Monday, March 13th | 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM | Format: VIRTUAL
Tuesday, March 14th | 7:30 AM - 8:15 PM | Format: In-Person
Wednesday, March 15th | 7:30 AM - 8:15 PM | Format: In-Person
Thursday, March 16th | 7:30 AM - 8:15 PM | Format: In-Person
Friday, March 17th | 7:30 AM - 8:15 PM | Format: In-Person

Knights Making a Difference

Cristian Vazquez, Vikan Knight, is a heavyweight wrestler and a part of Vikan's Wrestling Team. During a match at Quist Middle School last week, Cristian lived up to our values of ARMOR. He also demonstrated grace, and sportsmanship by allowing another wrestler to earn his first pin! The crowd went crazy when Jacob, the other student, accomplished this during the heavyweight dual. Jacob started the season not being able to flip over, and now, through his coach and Cristian, he feels that he is a part of something bigger than himself.

Congratulations Cristian on being an example of what a Vikan Knight is all about.

The Monitoring the Future (MTF) Survey | 8th Grade ONLY

Vikan Middle School has been invited by the University of Michigan to participate in a nationwide survey of 8th graders, entitled Monitoring the Future: a continuing study of American Youth. Our 8th graders will be to complete a 40-minute survey, which asks about school experiences, attitudes towards school and education, plans for the future, use of and attitudes about using alcohol and drugs, work experiences and preferences, and health and leisure activities.

If you would NOT like your student to participate in this survey, please fill out THIS form and email it or send it to your child's advisor.

Healthy Relationships 101 Workshop coming to Vikan

Attention Families: Family Tree will be coming to Vikan the week of March 13th to facilitate a Healthy Relationships 101 Workshop during advisory for all 7th-grade students. This workshop will be facilitated by experienced advocates from Family Tree’s Domestic Violence Outreach Program and will focus on working with students to discuss topics such as recognizing healthy and unhealthy behaviors in relationships, boundaries, consent, and more. 8th Grade End-of-Year Activities / Continuation Ceremony

Believe it or not, it is time to start planning the end of the year activities for 8th grade. Next week, our teachers will be sharing important information with our Knights regarding expectations for the end of the year.

Some of the activities we are planning are:

8th Grade Field Day | May 19th
8th Grade Field Trip (TBD) | May 23rd
8th Grade Breakfast | May 24th - 8:30 AM
8th Grade Continuation Ceremony | May 24th | 10:30 AM (Time could change slightly)

Attending the Continuation Ceremony and end-of-year activities are a privilege not a right. The criteria to be allowed to participate in the 8th Grade Continuation Ceremony is as follows:

Students cannot have more than ONE "F" or TWO "Ds" during 4th Quarter
Students cannot have any major discipline referrals or suspensions (fights, violent or disrespectful behavior, drugs/alcohol)

Students who are not meeting the criteria by May 18th and are in danger of not being allowed to participate in the May 23rd and 24th activities will have one more opportunity to make up their work on May 19th during Field Day. Students who do not meet the criteria will not be allowed on campus on May 24th. Their last day will be may 23rd.
