Note from the Principal
End of Winter Garden Work Day and Read-A-Thon Fun Run:
On Saturday, February 17th, from 8:30 – 2:00, we will be holding a Boone Garden Work Day in conjunction with the kick-off of our Library Read-A-Thon Fun Run. As you may have noticed over the last couple of weeks, we now have a wonderful storage shed located near the gardens. In addition, our outdoor science area has taken a huge step forward in its development. We now have a greenhouse and mulch in this area. However, the work is not done. We need to clean-up and mulch the garden area itself, spread some gravel for the floor of the greenhouse, and finish a few other details to get things in top shape for the Spring planting season.
These projects are wonderful additions to our campus and will provide our students with many hands on opportunities to develop their skills as Urban Gardeners. Our goal of planting seeds in the greenhouse, transplanting the seedlings into our gardening, and harvesting our produce to be used in the cafeteria for our lunches is getting closer and closer to fruition. Please come out and help. We will have a large amount of mulch and dirt to move so we will need wheelbarrows, shovels, dirt rakes, etc
.
We will start off the day at 8:30 with our Library Read-A-Thon Fun Run. At 9:00, the students will then have the option of helping with the garden work or moving into the library for some fun activities while the garden work is continuing.
It looks to be a fabulous day for community building and family fun!!! Please join us.
Also – If anyone has access to a Bobcat that would be willing to have it for use during the workday, that would be great. Please call me to discuss details. My direct office line is 512-414-5311.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
This is the time of year for Spring conferences here at Boone. If you have not received information about setting up your Spring conference with your teacher, please contact them directly. Monday, February 19th, is a Parent/Teacher conference day for all AISD elementary grade students. It is also a student holiday, so the children will be at home on Monday.
AISD Budget Community Meetings:
On Tuesday, February 13th, AISD is holding the first of several Community Meetings to discuss the AISD Budget for the 2018-19 School Year. This meeting will be held in the Crockett HS cafeteria from 6 – 8 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear more details about the budget process and to provide input into the priorities that AISD should consider moving forward with a very difficult budget situation. We are heading into some rather lean times with our district budget due to several factors and I highly encourage you to attend this meeting to fully understand the ramifications of what is being discussed. There is also a flier below to provide additional information regarding the Budget Meetings.
Space to Exit
We are asking parents to stand behind the bike racks on the Cafeteria exit when classes begin to exit at the end of the school day. We are hoping with this change teachers and students can get out the door more quickly without feeling crowded. Thank you for your help in advance.
Breakfast Monitor Needed!
Good Mornings!
Boone is in need of a cheerful Morning Breakfast monitor to help children with breakfast and clean up following breakfast. The breakfast monitor arrives at 7:00 am and leaves by 8:00 am. Pay is $7.25 an hour. If you are interested, please go online and fill out an AISD application for Boone Cafeteria Monitor and contact Amie Chalberg at 414-5310.

Please remember to complete the Parent Survey previously sent home in January in your child's Thursday Folder. Return surveys to the Boone Office by Monday, February 12.

Thank you to all who have already completed and returned the Parent Survey!
