November at the Rock!
November is Native American Heritage Month
The students of Rockville’s Youth Equity Squad (Y.E.S.) are preparing displays to honor the five tribes recognized by our state, and they will be making announcements to share more about these tribes on Monday afternoons. Y.E.S. hopes to illustrate the significance of these tribes’ stories in hopes students and staff will look, listen, and learn from them about Connecticut’s history. The majority of us are immigrants in this land, and this month is about honoring the first natives we so often forget.
In the words of Gladys Tantaquidgeon, a 20th century medicine woman from the Mohegan tribe in Connecticut, “Education is the best cure for prejudice. You can’t hate someone that you know a lot about.”

Students and Teachers Honored at CT Literary Festival
Caitlin Chatterton, Kaylin Mayer, Victoria Mitchell, and Cali Miville were selected to read their award-winning poetry at the Connecticut Literary Festival on Oct 23 at Real Art Ways. They shared the stage with a fantastic line up of CT writers. This was an incredible honor for these poets, and for RHS-- They were the only high school students to perform at this event.
Their teacher, Victoria Nordlund has been published in the 2021 Connecticut Literary Anthology http://connecticutliteraryfestival.org/connecticut-literary-anthology/. She read her work at the CT Anthology Release Party on October 22.
