Making Assignments Accessible from Google Classroom
While many of us are more familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint these tools do not translate well in a BYOD environment. First, Microsoft Office can cost between $100-$300 depending on the version purchased. Second, if the version of Microsoft the school has is not the same versions as the one a student may have on their home computer then students will be unable to open or view documents or assignments shared through Google Classroom.
To avoid persistent problems with accessibility to documents shared through Google Classroom create your documents in Google Drive. For documents already created in Microsoft you can upload those files into Google Drive and convert them to Google Documents. This will eliminate the stress for both you and your students as we transition to more online communications.
Using Google Classroom eliminates the need for printing AND it allows you to always have access to see student work. This allows for great formative assessment as well as relationship building.
The best thing about using Google Classroom is that students NEVER have to turn anything in! No more chasing students down to get them to turn in assignments! YAY!
In October there will be offerings to work together using the Google APPS within our school and if you still want to work on Google Classroom together please let me know.
