There is no other option...
Teaching is looking into the eyes of a student and saying, "There is no other option." To a teacher, the word impossible is spelled incorrectly; yet it should really be I'm-possible. Teachers see potential where everyone else sees impractical. A teacher shows up early, leaves late, takes work home, and doesn't mind making that phone call to a parent saying, "Your child had the BEST day!"
The term teacher implies that one simply teaches; but we all know that there is more than just that. You guys continue to inspire. Last week I quoted Helen Keller: "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." And though I have all the admiration in the world for Helen Keller, I have even more for Johanna Mansfield Sullivan Macy, who refused to believe that deaf and blind was Helen. She did the unbelievable, the impossible, the miraculous. No, she did not simply teach Helen, she inspired her. Inspire your students, fight for them, gnaw and scratch and kick and scream for them, and you, too, will inspire them as you inspire me!

At this point, it was my hopes that you have become a student of your students (Manny Scott). You have learned them, studied them, and could make straight A's on them. Now, it's time to teach. I'm not saying that you all have not been teaching and working towards your students' goals; however, now it's time for full-blown, all-out teaching like there's no tomorrow.
The first 9 weeks end on October 20th and report cards go home on the 27th. Be sure that you have the necessary data on your students to articulate to their parents regarding their progress this first 9 weeks. Be Honest! I know that you guys have been teaching your tails off and building those relationships, now is the time to illustrate it. If you have questions regarding what should go home, please see me before Wednesday, October 19th.
