From the Magnet School Director
Science finished up a Benchmark test while ELA worked on some speed debating. In Career investigations the students presented their PBL projects that they have been working on for almost 2 months. Did you know that our Hobby Hawk students are already 50% of the way done with the year?! Marking Period 3 and 4 will be critical in determining grade level promotion and/or summer school recommendations.
We also have STAAR practice tests coming up in February! Please mark your calendars for February 8th and February 14th for practice testing!
Progress reports come out January 22nd!

HAWK TUTORING PROGRAM
Join us and help Hobby students achieve success in the classroom. Tutoring does not require any experience and is more about encouragement than education! Can you help us? Tutoring happens every Tuesday and Thursday during flex periods 11:00-11:30.

Volunteers must have an active NISD Background Check. Submit here:
From the Nurse
Parents please encourage your child to eat lunch at school, if they do not like what is being served, please fix a sack lunch and bring it to school to eat. Many students are spending valuable learning time coming to the Nurse’s Office with headaches from not eating during their lunch time. Skipping meals is not a healthy habit and many are arriving without eating breakfast at home or in the school cafeteria. Breakfast and Lunch are free at school.
Library
Library Palooza will be here before we know it!
This FREE event will take place February 24th from 10am-4pm at Brandeis HS. See the image below for a list of this year’s featured authors. Can’t wait to see you there!
Hawk Book Boxes Take Flight!
Have students who love to read? Or maybe ones that you would like to try and get excited for reading?
Then the Hawk Book Box is something you’ll definitely want to encourage them to sign up for. Starting January 4th students will be able to sign up for a Hawk Book Box. In the box students will get 2 library books curated just for them along with a snack and some fun surprises.
Only 20 students will be permitted to participate for each of the months of January, February, and March. It is first come, first serve, so if you have students that are interested be sure to send them to Mrs. Fox asap. Students will only be able to participate once a year, that way we can get more students involved.
After students sign up, Mrs. Fox will flag them for flex, so they can fill out their questionnaire. And then, after some library magic, book boxes will be delivered to classes a week or so later. Students will return library books when they are done reading them, but can keep all the goodies inside the box.
Box themes for each month are as follows:
January-Winter
February-Love
March-Spring
Family Engagement
