RSVP For the January 12th combined SEAOC/TLC on Specially Designed Instruction
Combined meeting: Specially Designed Instruction
Time: 8:30 a.m - 2:00 p.m.
Presenter Sharon LaPointe and Laurie VanderPloeg
In an effort to give some general information regarding the presentation, the following is offered as taken from several PowerPointe slides. “OSEP recognizes that classrooms across the country are changing as the field of special education responds to innovative practices and increasingly flexible methods of teaching. While the needs of learners can be met using such methods, they do not replace the need of a child with a disability for unique individualized instruction.”
Arizona DOE reply on 6-24-16: “While the definition of special education means that special education is different from general education, it also means that special education is something more than providing accommodations and/or assisting a student with assignments. Although students eligible for special education may need some accommodations to access the general education environment, simply providing accommodations and/or academic support does not equate with specially designed instruction.” See www.azed.gov/disputeresolution/2016/06/24/spedserv7
The below RSVP was designed for districts and includes a health questionnaire. Stephanie would still like you to RSVP to the same document so that she can get an accurate head count. Please ignore and question items that do not pertain to you.
