Prestons Post
Term 3, Week 10
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our Week 10 newsletter. This is our final newsletter for Term 3. I wanted to thank all of our students, families and the whole of the Prestons team for a wonderful term. We certainly are privileged to learn and work in such a great school.
We have had so many wonderful achievements these past few weeks, what a great way to celebrate the end of term.
Liverpool/Glenfield Public Speaking Competition
Four of our very eloquent public speakers travelled to Greenway Park Public School for the Liverpool/Glenfield Public Speaking Final. We are very proud of them and the way they represented our school. Congratulations to;
- David Munns
- Kimaya Prasad
- Shaelyn Sibil
- Mohid Nawaz
Science Fair
Our Stage 3 students have been so engaged both at school and at home as they worked on their projects for the Science Fair. I was so impressed with the quality of every project and wanted to commend all students for their efforts. Our official Science Fair was held on Wednesday and the class finalists all had the opportunity to present their projects to students, teachers, their families and special guests. Our students enjoyed presenting their projects to NSW Australian of the Year Professor Veena Sahajwalla at the Science Fair. We are so proud of the hard work our budding scientists put in to complete their experiments and explain the scientific process. Thank you also to Mrs Hearne who supported our school for assisting us to apply to Australia Post for the opportunity to have Professor Veena Sahajwalla visit us for this day. We are very grateful for this opportunity.
Have a wonderful school holiday, please stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 10 October 2022.

Stranger Danger
It is important to talk to your child/children and reinforce the stranger danger message.
Some tips to talk about are listed below:
Avoid walking on your own and instead walk with other family members, friends or an adult you know;
Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of people;
Make sure your parents or another adult know where you are at all times;
Always walk straight home or the place you are walking to;
Know where safe places are - a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call police;
Learn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help, police officer, teachers, adults you know and trust;
Don’t talk to people you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know.
If a car stops on side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop and if you are scared call Triple Zero (000) and tell them you are scared.

Classroom Chat with 1 Treefrogs
Wow! What a busy and enjoyable term the Tree Frogs have had! We have been working extremely hard with our 1 Flamingos family to explore challenging concepts in our learning. In writing we have been learning about persuasive texts, focusing on our use of high-modality words and creating an interesting hook to grab and maintain our reader’s attention.
Throughout the year we have been focusing on positive learner qualities which has seen us embedding team work, perseverance and our growth mindset into every task that we complete. We also competed in a class perseverance challenge to learn how to tie our shoelaces. Through hard work, determination and a lot of help from our families, the Treemingos (Tree Frogs and Flamingos) now have 18 students that can tie their shoelaces and a lot of students who are very close to achieving their goal.
The Treemingos have been busy studying famous artists and have been experimenting with lines, textures, shapes and colours. This has seen us produce quality artworks that we are extremely proud of. Fun fact: The Treemingos dabbed different shades of pink paint onto a piece of broccoli and used it as a stamp to create the flowers on our cherry blossom trees.
Term 3 has definitely been an eventful and exciting term, but we are really looking forward our upcoming excursion to the zoo and a well-deserved rest in the holidays.
Classroom Chat with 5 Kingfishers
Our very own superstar Zoey Maafi represented Zone and Regional in shotput and is now off to STATE! Wishing her the best of luck, Olympic Games here she comes!
We have been finding grammar errors in everyday life and learning the value of proofreading. This along with daily brain teasers has been making learning so much fun!
Have a safe and restful holiday!
