A New Year, A New Mission

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

First and foremost, as a pre-professional organization for women of color on Cornell's campus, Les Femmes de Substance has re-dedicated our mission to fostering professionalism and leadership within the black female community through educational and professional programming.

Specifically created to ensure that Les Femmes de Substance’s brand stays consistent and our professional objectives are upheld, our newly-created Professional Chair, will ensure that we meet all aspects of Les Femmes de Substance’s mission. Our new program of Professional Etiquette Workshops, will provide our ladies with professional guidance via a variety of different topics, from personal brand management to preparation for fall interview season. Our first workshop will take place on September 26. All are encouraged to attend and participate! In addition to these workshops, we will be distributing a biweekly professional opportunities letter via our listserv.

Crucial to this year’s goals, we have committed special attention to the recruitment of new members to ensure that Cornell’s newest class will receive the attention and skills that they desperately need. This year, we partnered once again with the Black Women's Support Network to host an Ice Cream Social for new and returning students. Following that event, our annual Ebony Mixer took place on September 12, upholding our legacy of sisterhood and professional development in a productive and friendly atmosphere. This year’s mixer provided answers to any and all questions that freshmen women may have in regards to succeeding at Cornell while maintaining their physical, emotional, and mental health.

This year, Les Femmes de Substance will make every effort to give women of color on Cornell's campus the tools they require to become true women of substance and assets to the world. While this may be an ambitious goal for some, we know that with your support and the guidance of our friends and allies, Les Femmes de Substance will continue to yield success and excellence for our members and the Cornell community. Thank you in advance for your commitment to Les Femmes de Substance's mission by representing our organization in true form.

With Substance,

Les Femmes de Substance, Executive Board
