Happy Friday everyone,

We started the day off with a bang today and I would like to congratulate our PP Class for an amazing assembly that showcased the engaging learning going on in their room. I would also like to thank our Student Leaders who stepped up to lead the assembly from start to finish in Mrs Cosgrove and Mrs King’s absence. I have loved to watch their leadership skills and confidence grow over the year!

On Sunday morning we will are looking forward to celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year 6 Students and the St Bernadette’s Parish. Our class teachers and parents have prepared the students beautifully and they met Father Vincent Glynn (who will be celebrating on Sunday) during the week to discuss what they have learnt. This is an important day in our student’s spiritual journey and I look forward to sharing the day with them.

A couple of quick reminders for parents around the carpark and uniforms. Can I please ask parents to park only in the marked bays in our carpark as parking at the eastern end of the rows has caused a blocking of the main road at the end of the day. We are going to have this carpark fixed up and remarked with signage as part of the CDP, however, this will take time to be completed. And just a quick mention to check all uniforms for labels please, the build-up of unmarked uniforms continues and we have had a couple of parents looking for labelled uniforms that may have been accidentally picked up by the wrong student.

Finally, for those who don’t know, I will be taking leave for the final two weeks of the term and travelling up north for a month with my family. It is my 40th birthday and we plan to spend time at Karajini, Coral Bay, Exmouth, Monkey Mia and Kalbarri. I would like to thank Lisa King for taking over while I am away, can I please ask that you support her and our team like you do for me!

Have a great weekend.

On Wednesday, our Year 2 classes spent the day exploring Kings Park. Luckily the weather was on our side this time and the children enjoyed their day out! Thank you so much to the parent helpers who helped our staff, in making the excursion such a success.

Here is what a few of the students had to say:

I found some flowers that smelt like vanilla ice cream - Izzy L

We did orienteering which was like a treasure hunt. We found markers and got to answer questions about nature. Jet S

We made a water filter with a plastic bottle, sand, charcoal and leaf litter. My filter made slow drops of clean water. Ebony L

My favourite activity was making the water filter at

the creek. Ruby Z

I liked finding all the clues in the orienteering course. Jayce F

Year 4 Excursion to the Warnbo Library

Our Year 4 students also had a book reading at the local library this week. They were lucky enough to listen to renowned children's author Sally Murphy talk about her books and journey as a writer.

The students used Transperth Buses to get to and from the Library which was an adventure in itself! A big thanks to everyone who helped out!

Did you know?

That Indonesia celebrate Hari Merdeka

(Independence day) on the

17 August every year! To pronouce

Hari Merdeka, you say Hu-ree Mer-de-kah 🙂

What do people do to celebrate Hari Merdeka?

Many people celebrate the day through games and activities. The most popular of these games is called Panjat Pinang. This involves competitors climbing palm trees in order to reach prizes hung at the top of the trees. Prizes can include electronic goods, clothes and even bicycles! Students have been amazed at how entertaining some of these cultural activities are.

Our Year 6 Bernie's students are starting to plan their very own Mini Merdeka to run on Friday, during Cultural week in week 10, this term. Stay tuned over the coming weeks, to find out more about what exciting and creative cultural activities they are planning.
